If YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S ...

You had that Fisher Price Doctor 's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days. YEAH! ~

You owned a "Slip-n-Slide",on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.

You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once.

You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill". People sometimes thought you were a boy.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits.

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Olson!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink.!

Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.

When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off"

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic. With the thermos inside!

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!

It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy..?"

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)

You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics.

You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first "real" perfume you ever owned .. .

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip gloss till it almost dripped off.

PASS THIS ON TO ALL OF YOUR 30 -SOMETHING GIRLFRIENDS. IT WILL MAKE THEM SMILE TOO!!!!

Oh I am laughing so hard. I loved my poncho, and now hate the smell of love's baby soft and always asked my Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy..?"

I completely wore out the Grease and Saturday Night Fever record album.

I did do lots of arts and crafts and made Shrinky-Dinks !!!!!

I did all these things.

Are you my daughter? She had all of those toys. And she was infatuated with Gopher, and Strawberry Shortcake, and Cabbage Patch. She danced to Solid Gold. Love's Baby Soft was her favorite. And she went through Strawberry lip gloss like it was candy. She did ALL of the things on the list. But you left out her Light Brite and Snowcone Machine.

It seems when we were kids, things were so much simpler. I was more into ANDY GIBB than Shaun Cassidy. Had a picture of him laying on a bed with just a satin jacket - unzipped - attached to my wall next to my bed...so every night I was sleeping with him! You mean "Physical" wasn't about aerobics? lol My mom still has the pot holders I made when I was a kid. And YES, I have to admit Gopher was so hot in those shorts!

Thank you for bringing back these memories!

OMG that is too funny and of course far too true!!! But you left out lightbright and barbies. My tin lunchbox was a barbie one....lol. But to be fair, my parents never let me watch Love Boat nor Fantasy Island, they thought there was WAY too much sexual inuendo in those types of shows for us to be able to watch. So I watched Hogins Heros and M*A*S*H instead. Not that they're much better for that though!

Thanks for the memories and visiting my blog.

I'm a male (that caught part of the 70's), but these brought back some good memories. Thanks for the post. It's been years since I thought about Klick-Klacks. Those were as cool as my bell bottoms and silk shirt.

If you were my homework, I'd do you everyday, in every possible way.

Oh one more thing about the 1970's I remember...the movie The Exorcist...I was like 15 or 16 when I saw it, had to have my uncle take me because you had to be 17 or older to see it without an adult...shit I could not sleep for like a month after I saw that movie and to this day everytime I see a creamy green soup I have to look away...Yuck! Click-clacks took me over the threshold . . .
translucent colored and butterfly shaped yo-yos
mood rings
pet rocks
Wacky Packages
Sphere-shaped Panasonic radios that came in avocado
and other colors
CB radios
Pong--possibly the first video game
8 Track Tapes
Black lights, black light posters, and lava lamps
Cumbersome brown cable tv boxes with the large square
beige buttons

I'm a little too old for most of that, I'm afraid...

The mention of The Exorcist reminds me that the "horror" stuff didn't bother my much. That was just good effects work, and was the kind of stuff I looked for in those day. The scenes where they're doing all the medical stuff, that's what gave me nightmares....

I came along in the late 70's but I still remember and know some of the stuff you are talking about. LOL Strawberry Shortcake, I had the doll and the sheet set. My mom still has that damn sheet.

If you lived in Japan at the time... you might've got to also own a God-Jesus robot doll. (Which looks nothing much like any depiction I've seen of God or Jesus...) Or was it the 80s? I think I'll have to look that one up again.

My sister and I used to fight over Leif Garrett and also the Bay City Rollers. We did endless renditions of all the Grease songs and did concerts when people came around. Life was so fun and so simple back then....

Auuugh! My eyes, my eyes!

Sigh. Yeah. About 60% of those hit home.

Shawn Cassidy was supposed to be my first concert, but he was sold out, so I had to make due w/ the Beach Boys.

Don't forget ribboned barrettes, troll dolls (in their pre-cartoon, genuninely from Sweden or wherever they came from), and those "chinese jacks" that were links of plastic rings...
