Ice Sculptures

I am hoping it snows again today! Isn't it amazing what creations can be made with frozen water?

hmmm... the most snow i've ever seen was one year when i was in leeds -- it wasn't even an inch deep. we built a snowman cos well it wasn't exactly something i normally had the opportunity to do -- but even getting enuf snow together for that was taxing. i actually find it hard to comprehend so much snow...

Ice sculpture is probably so much easier then other sculpting (wood, metal, granite, stone etc.)becuase not only does the blade cut, it also melts that area of ice. Rather then having to sand your finish like other mediums, with ice you use light heat to melt the finish smooth. Other mediums you cannot use heat to create a good finish. Although my boss told me when I mentioned using some of the spare 2 1/2" think acrylic (real thick plexiglas) that he saw someone use a blow torch on acrylic to get a smooth finish so I may try that when i finish carving the acrylic.

it is pretty to look at...but boy am I glad I live in AZ and we don't have to deal with driving in it or the extreme cold.
