O Holiday Tree??

Alright, in lieu of my ass hanging out of a tree and setting up holiday deco, plus the fact that I might dehydrate SensuallyKatey to death with any more sexy posts, I'm going to tackle a recent issue that has come up.

Has anyone noticed that there's a recent spree of anti-Christian anything in any kind of public place? The newest addition to that is a complete disdain for anything with the word "Christmas" in it, for fear of offending a small sect of the population that seems to think that speaking of this holiday, this federal holiday, would somehow infringe upon their rights to not be Christian.

As you may or may not have heard, a number of public schools country-wide decided that they are not allowed to have "Christmas Break" anymore, only "Winter Break". Winter Break? So it's 3 months long then?

We can no longer have "Christmas parties", we must have "Holiday Parties." And, you can forget about letting anyone say "Merry Christmas" at the register, I mean, what if they were Jewish or something? They might take offense to such a well-meaning phrase. Who wants to be wished a merry anything, nevermind Christmas? I mean, really, who uses the word merry anymore? Come ON. Get with the times. Psshh..."merry"...

And of course, God forbid, we call it a Christmas tree. I mean, that's only what it has been called since it graduated from the evergreen boughs with which the Romans decorated their homes. Leave it to the Germans to come up with something so offensive. They even wrote a song about it! Damned Nazis...

You know, of all the holidays, you're going to go after the one holiday that is supposed to be about peace, love, and giving? And, you're going to claim that Christmas still has a religious connotation? What do you think of first when you hear the word 'Christmas'? Jesus Christ or Santa Claus?

You know what's funny about people getting uppity over the Christmas and the Christmas tree? When the Germans brought the tradition to America, it was considered pagan. It wasn't even done to celebrate Christmas as we know it, it was to celebrate the winter solstice, also a "pagan" concept. Christmas decorations were actually banned in MA for a while there. Now you're going to claim they have a religious connotation? That's rich.

Christmas is a federal holiday. It is the biggest boom for the world economy. In most cases it has ZERO religious connotation. Especially the Christmas tree. Its origins have nothing to do with Christ or Christianity at all and can be traced as far back as the Egyptians.

Bottom line, if you are a non-Christian, and you have the time and energy to be offended by something so unfathomably inoffensive, you have too much free time. The only thing offensive about Christmas is how it's been sucked into commercialism Hell, and that it starts as early as Halloween.

I'm not religious by any means, let alone anything near right wing. But I have to side with you on this, and maybe a few other social screwups running across the country. I love Christmas, and I wouldn't celebrate it any other way than I have for the past 40 years.

A few years ago I said "Have a Merry Christmas" to a guy as he left my desk. He smiled and said, almost threateningly, "Thanks, but I'm Jewish." I smiled back and told him, "No worries. I'm an atheist. But if it makes you feel better, have a lousy Christmas, and better luck in the New Year." He wasn't sporting that fucking grin when he left.

People act like there's something wrong with wishing your fellow man good cheer and prosperity as the year ends. To each of them, and the ACLU of late, let them fester in their own anger and animousity. Heartless Scrooges that they are.

BG: Be careful. People are getting fired and schools are being sued for that kind of thing.

Kimmers: Nice going!

Kate: Be careful with that naked body! You could cause all manners of physical ailments, like erections that never fade.

Wicked: Thanks! I agree, we continue to widen divisions in all areas, race, religion, gender, etc. with this kind of "I'm offended" thinking. Welcome to my blog!

Nikki: To you also.
