F*ck Political Affiliations

In a comment a few posts back, Tiller happened to mention she thought I was a Republican. I realized that I had already written several political posts, yet neglected to explain my political affiliation both in my blog and in my profile. Thanks to Tiller for calling that to my attention.

(Before I get flamed for it, any generalizations I make are just that. I'm not saying everyone acts one way or another, simply that as a whole, the group tends to act one way or the other. If you don't follow the "rules", good for you, but don't bitch at me for "lumping you in with the rest of them". Ok? Good.)

The gist of it is, I don't have a political affiliation. I am neither a Republican, nor a Democrat nor a liberal nor a conservative. Most people think I am a Republican because on a great many issues I tend to side with conservative viewpoints. This is primarily because on most issues, I find the conservative view point to be the "correct" one, due to the fact that most conservatives are big business people who make decisions solely on logic and numbers. Liberals tend to make decisions based on emotion and empathy. I, by nature, am a logical uncaring machine.

That is not to say I am not very liberal on other issues. Neither side would have me because I only deal in arguments that relate to the issue and make some sort of sense. And further, I do not give a shit about politics or posturing. When I think I'm right, I will go to town until someone can prove to me with rational arguments that I'm wrong. When I'm wrong, I admit it and move on. I also don't buy into political correctness. And, I am not of sheep mentality. I do as I please, everyone else be damned.

My main problem with conservatives is they like to rely on The Book to tell them what to do, and that they turn people into numbers. The funny thing is, most of the rules originally taught by those about whom The Book is written were good rules and applicable today. They also had very rational and logical reasons to back up their necessity. Unfortunately, a bunch of nonsense has since been tacked on by various churches over the ages. Not to mention churches typically discourage thought and debate over their moral views, so people don't believe in "another way". This means that they refuse to even acknowledge another point of view because what The Book says is law. (We'll get to a rant on religion and The Book sometime in the future.)

My main problem with liberals is they whine too much. Liberals tend to freak out if someone gets offended by something, as if no one has the right to offend anyone else even by accident. I think that is total BS. People get offended, it happens. Apologize and move on, assuming the person who got offended was offended by something worth apologizing for. I don't find the word "fuck" to be offensive and that's considered a swear, nevermind silly stuff like "retard" or "fag" or "stewardess", so I'm not going to go out of my way to avoid using them, especially because most words have a thousand different meanings and connotations. At the same time, I'm not going to intentionally use them just because I know it will offend someone. Words are words and have no power to inflict damage unless we let them.

Liberals also tend to consider the good of the very, very small few over the majority. They're interested in the one half of one percent of people, and I find that to be silly. When it comes to government, focusing on pleasing the minority is inefficient and typically prevents anything from getting done. In this I mean primarily the judicial stuff (allowing a bunch of assholes to go free to ensure the one innocent guy that comes along doesn't get locked up) and being PC. (Both sides work in favor of the tiny minority when it comes to lining their pockets, so I'm not talking about that.)

So instead, I'd rather belong to my own political party/ideology. It's a party that only requires a person to believe in three things in order for them to join, so there's none of this sheep herding and no stifling of discussions or forcing otherwise intelligent people to follow the party line. Those three things are as follows.

First is self-responsibility. You agree to be responsible for your own actions no matter what the result. You agree that ultimately what happens to you boils down to your own actions or inactions. If you make a mistake, you try and learn from it. No blame games beyond discerning exactly what about that decision was wrong. If someone else makes a mistake, you don't get to use it as an excuse to destroy them either. You are further responsible for defining and defending your own opinions and positions.

Second, you agree to speak your own view of whatever issue that comes up without spin or influence from PACs etc. This also means you don't duck hard questions. At worst, if you don't know about the subject, you say so and come back with an answer a short time later when you've had a chance to investigate. You don't change your views based on the political wind, and if you do change your mind, you come out and explain why. And, if the media tries to change the issue at hand with irrelevant questions, you tell them to fuck off while demonstrating the irrelevance of that question. You also don't get to tell stories to answer questions. You answer questions honestly and directly. If I ask you about abortion, you don't tell me about Georgia's daughter's baby and how cute she is. If I ask you about the War on Terror, you don't tell me about Clark's son in the 9th infantry.

Third, you agree to listen to all points of view and give each person their chance to speak. If neither of you will be convinced, you agree to disagree. No slander/libel. No mud throwing. No dragging up closet-skeletons to distract people from the actual debate. You treat everyone with kindness and respect up until they earn otherwise, and even then you think twice about it.

That's it. If you can abide by those three, I don't care if you're a fucking Nazi, you can join my party. (Yeah, I know a Nazi isn't going to get past number 3.) Black, white, Jew, Muslim, abortionist, communist, socialist, man, woman, homosexual, transsexual, Wookie, Vulcan, Romulan, Jaffa, droid, giant walking penis, or even Ted Kennedy's left ass cheek, if you can abide by those three things, you can come join up.

Anyone interested?

I wasn't bothered by it, so no need to apologize. Though, maybe that's a good opportunity for me to ask your master to loan you out for a little punishment?
