Definition of 'Slut'

Something I was thinking about today, mostly because a number of posts have discussed it recently. Where do we draw the line between a woman who simply enjoys sex and a slut? Is a certain number of guys/gals or does it depend on each individual relationship (say the difference between fucking the guy you met on the street and your best friends for years) And is being a slut really a bad thing?

Women toss around the term for other women they hate or who are cutting in on their action. And there does exist that double standard between men,who can fuck anything that moves and be heralded for it, and women who can fuck two guys and become a slut.

I've always maintained that most men want a lady in public, but a slut in private. However, I don't think men really want a slut persay, since by definition a slut's going to want to sleep around, and while some guys get off on that, most of us don't. What men really want, I think, is just a woman who is interested and willing to have sex with frequency. Difficulty is, most women like to give off subtle signals regarding their willingness that we men just miss altogether. We want a woman who's going to jump our bones at every opportunity and solve for us all our kinky and perverted fantasies without us even having to ask. A guy wants to come home to find his lady naked and masturbating in anticipation of his arrival.

Of course, a forward and willing woman also sets off all kinds of warning signals, particularly if you're the type of guy who rarely gets offers. Anyone who watches SciFi will know, the woman that blatantly offers sex probably has something hideous planned for you shortly thereafter...like disembowling you or using your body as a host for her alien offspring.

So what makes a slut? And is a slut a good thing, bad thing, or just a thing in general?

If you have any sluts to spare, send em down here.

In the meantime, Please excuse my use of your comment space for this....Dusty Widget has been wrongly accused in many blogs as the perpetrator of the "cruel and heartless" cliticals scam.

Tricky word that it is. And you hit the nail on the head with a woman's use of it as well the old double standard for men and women. I don't believe there is a word for a man that has a variety and volume of partners. Not that I can currently bring to mind that is.

I do believe however, that the word "slut" would describe the indiscriminate person, one that will partake of sex with anyone just to have sex. No "standards" for lack of a better term. A string of anonymous partners, nothing long term or even short lived just a body to use and then move on.

Now I must say that I enjoy different partners for different reasons. And yes I do have more than one. Does that make me a slut? Not in my eyes. I am exploring my sexuality and enjoying the company of the men I meet. Do I sleep with all of them? No. Nor does it mean that I plan to have sex each time I meet a new person. However, I am not interested in an exclusive relationship, short or long term, but am interested in being a friend as well as a lover. Those that I get along best with, both in and out of bed, are the ones I prefer to keep company with. The occasional fuck buddy is a bonus and to be honest, they are an easy find on this site. I have them as well.

So think what you please. Your opinion of me is not nearly as important as my happiness and well being. And as I have often heard is similar to a orifice that every animal on earth has..

Interesting and thought provoking post! Something I have thought about in relation to my own sexual experiences quite a bit.
I think it's one of those 'How long is a piece of string?' questions.
Everyone will have their own definition of exactly what defines a slut.
I hate getting into the numbers game ~ I've had sex with more men than is probably 'socially acceptable'. Does that make me a slut?
Maybe in some people's view. Until I was 41 and seperated I had little sexual experience outside of my marriage. Since seperation/divorce i have explored my sexuality. I'm comfortable with that.
I even had an email sent to me on this site warning me that since I 'appeared' to have had a lot of partners I should hide this information from any man I was interested in pursuing a LTR with.
I can only conclude that the moron who sent this email was assuming I had sex with every person in my friends network (laughable)or perhaps based on the fact that I have herpes and say so on my profile. (Interesting aside for those who may wonder ~ I caught herpes over 20 years ago when I was a 'good girl' )
My definition of a slut would be a person who will simply have sex with anyone who asks, indiscriminately.
I look forward to seeing other responses to your post!

    peace and healing
    shy
Just goes to show even the "good girls" are not necessarily virginal brides as it were.

I think my problem is we've made sex so taboo that even exploring your sexuality can make you a "slut." At least, AdultFriendFinder obviously seems to think that anyway with that E-mail.

I don't have any for myself, so I've got nobody to pass on sorry.

I also do not get involved in Blog drama and my blog is a Drama-Free Zone. If you're already leaving other people alone, then ignoring the ones making shit up about you is the best way to go.

I hope you were speaking figuratively with that "your" in front of "opinion" and not referring to me directly, since I'm not in the habit of judging people for sexual habits I don't even know about. (If you weren't...I'd be curious to know who I managed to impress so much that they'd go telling people my opinion is similar to an orifice ever animal has.)

Words like "player" get used for men. They don't carry the same
negative connotation usually though, except to women looking for a steady guy.

I think that you're right about how "standards" seem to make the difference between sexual freedom and slutty behavior.

Slut used be considered a bad thing....nowadays who knows. But what is a skank?

This is a really good post Ptalk.
Have you ever heard that song called "When we get behind closed doors"
I guess shes the ideal woman. She makes him glad that he's a man.
and she lets her hair hang down..... fly
That's true, promiscuity and stupidity are idolized among the youth today. It pisses me off too. Kids are encouraged to have sex just because it's apparently the definition of adulthood, and they're encouraged to limit their own intelligence because geeks are bullied and tortured.

Haven't heard the song though.
