Daxed and Waxed

Gavin Henson's appearance at the Wales/Ireland game last weekend, hair daxed, waxed and undisturbed depite bouncing of several Irish forwards, reminded of my schooldays and a rather unsual introduction to a girlfriend. As a pupil at a catholic boys school, girls existed in a parallel universe and only occasionally was one of us lucky enough to find the worm hole that linked the two together. One of the team, a tall, blond outside-half, judged reasonably good looking and a Rod Stewart haircut (cue early 1970's) to match, managed to do just that. Despite not having much else in the cranial area he regularly succeeded in roping in a posse of females from the local girl's school (pupils, I hasten to add), who under normal circumstances wouldn't be seen dead at a school rugby match. It always amazed me how, despite ploughing around in mud for 80 minutes as the rest of us did, his hairdo remained immaculate. Remember, then as now, abilities such as these count significantly with the opposite sex - these were Glam Rock years, after all.
One dark haired girl in particular, I rather liked but couldn't quite find the right opportunity to approach, until finally IT happened. Supremely lucky, I had the good fortune to be slammed into touch only to land, seemingly in slow motion into her lap. The details are hazy now, I might have been in pain at that moment, but such minor temporal details seemed irrelevant as the celestial choirs descended, one thing led to another and we became an item.
The relationship lasted about 3 months which is a major committment at that age.
And then she went off with the blond, outside half.

Bugger those outside halves!

The hair story is reminiscent to me of a conundrum I noticed during that timeframe, too. How DID Charlie's Angels manage perfectly quoiffed hair, despite their daring and high-speed hijinks?

Safira, thanks for your comments.
I guess if we knew the answer to that we could all be Charlie's Angels.... (well I'd be George Clooney!)

Forget the Charlie's Angels well coifed hairdos. That's for the films.

George Clooney? I'm sure you are more down to earth than him, darling Boxa.
