John Lennon

Sunday would have been John Lennon's 65th birthday. Think of what the man gave to humanity. He gave his heart, soul, brain, talent, creativity, whimsy, charm, and an attitude that is sorely missed. He was a brilliant artist who always stood up for what he believed. When I think back to my childhood, I can still see him strumming his guitar and singing great songs, but I also can still see the light that shone from him. He was a troubled young man back in the Beatles, yet he was also the backbone of the group that changed the world.

He wrote "I'm A Loser" and also "I Feel Fine" in 1964. So prolific and so talented. The world has not seen anyone like him since, and I doubt that we will.

Anyone who says the Stones were better or more influencial is simply insane.

Why is it that John Lennon is dead, yet Keith "The Human Mainline" Richards is still alive smirking across stages making zillions of dollars boring the living shit out of people? The answer is simple.

Life sucks.

The crap never ends.

John Lennon, may he live in our hearts forever.

You know, Poseur McGoth used to tell me The Beatles were dying in order of their talent, the best going first and as a result, Paul McCartney will live forever.

They hype this weekend was amazing. QVC is now doing the John Lennon Collection of jewelry. A new CD box set has been released. Of course, these people could have been tackier. They could have waited two months before hyping all this crap.

To say that Paul McCartney was not talented is every bit as demented as saying that OJ Simpson is not a double-murderer.

Hey Jude. Yesterday. Can't Buy Me Love. Let It Be. Get Back. Not talented? C'mon now.

I saw the QVC actually. All the pieces were approved by Yoko Ono, which to me, adds that authenticity that only a meddling wife can give.

Across the Universe

words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
they slither wildly as they slip away across the universe
pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind posessing and caressing me

jai guru deva om
nothing's gonna change my world

images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes
they call me on and on across the universe
thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letterbox they tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe

jai guru deva om
nothing's gonna change my world

sounds of laughter shades of love are ringing through my open ears
insighting and inviting me
limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
and calls me on and on across the universe

jai guru deva om
nothing's gonna change my world

Jai Guru Deva Om

I once had a girl or should I say she once had me
She showed me her room isn't it good Norwegian wood
She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere
But I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair

I sat on her rug biding my time drinking her wine
We talked until two and then she said it's time for bed
She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh
I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath

And when I awoke I was alone this bird had flown
So I lit a fire isn't it good Norwegian wood

John Lennon created too many truly brilliant examples of song writing, at its very essence, to cite. His creations, these songs, are old friends, even lovers...they keep you warm at night. I miss his voice.

I Feel Fine 1964

Baby's good to me, you know,
She's happy as can be, you know,
She said so.
I'm in love with her and I feel fine.

Baby says she's mine, you know,
She tells me all the time, you know,
She said so.
I'm in love with her and I feel fine.

I'm so glad that she's my little girl.
She's so glad, she's telling all the world

That her baby buys her things, you know.
He buys her diamond rings, you know,
She said so.
She's in love with me and I feel fine

Baby says she's mine, you know,
She tells me all the time, you know,
She said so.
I'm in love with her and I feel fine.

I'm so glad that she's my little girl.
She's so glad, she's telling all the world

That her baby buys her things, you know.
He buys her diamond rings, you know,
She said so.
She's in love with me and I feel fine

That was the first Number One Record with intentionally recorded feedback. His amazing creativity and inventiveness, coupled with his sense of life around him, simply brilliant.

In My Life 1965

There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

The man was brilliant, inspired, inventive, prolific, a songwriter as gifted as there ever was.

He wrote catchy hit songs, introspective songs, he wrote beautiful melodies and also raunchy rock and roll...he did it all. He put his heart and soul into his art, and we all benefitted from it immensely.

I miss him too.
