Website analysis, tropical fish and career scientists

I am so not in the mood to work today. I have to search out web traffic analysis software for a client who I know will not be willing to pay $10,000 for WebTrends. I already run awstats on our server, using perl and php to grab and parse log files located on other servers, but it's not got all the bells and whistles that the marketing folks like so much. If any geeks happen across this post, advice would be appreciated.

Yesterday, it was time to do a water change for my 30 gallon freshwater aquarium. My bala shark, a fish that panics easily, decided to wedge itself in a hole in a decoration. This is the second time I've had to manhandle a fish to get it unstuck from somewhere. Fish have a slime coat...it is not easy to get a good grip on them. Here I am, getting a bit panicky myself, trying to gently grab and wiggle this stupid fish out of it's predicament, trying not to get too upset that I'd simply have to put the fish out of it's misery, when finally, I managed to free him. He swam over to a corner and looked to be close to death, but seemed to get better over night. He looked okay today, missing a few scales and slightly roughed up, but alive. I've had my bala for over 3 years now...yeah, it's just a fish, but it is also my pet and I've worked hard to feed and take care of all my piscean friends. I find a lot of pleasure in watching them. I also breed mollies to feed to my prized rope fish which hunts the same way a shark does, by detecting the electrical impulses of its prey. It should be of no surprise that snake-like fish are my favorites.

On that note, I read a funny comment on my favorite weird news website. It was in response to someone making a derogatory remark about "career scientists".

So he's not just a scientist... he's a career scientist. Is that supposed to demonize him in some way?

Yeah, when I go to the doctor with some life threatening ailment I sure as hell don't want to end up going to see one of them "career" doctors. No siree, don't like their "agendas". Give me some doctor who is just kind of drifting through life and views doctoring as a paid hobby. That's the kind of guy I want.

And I sure as heck don't want to send my kids to school to be educated by "career" teachers. No way! And my car? There's no way in hell I'd ever let a "career" mechanic touch it. And when I've got a toothache I'd better not find out my dentist is a "career" dentist."
