Piscean Attempted Suicide

2 am...I finally managed to tear myself away from "The Bane of the Black Sword" and attempted to go to sleep. But I was restless, I kept tossing and turning. In the darkness comes a sound...a weird flopping sound which I assumed was my cat playing with something. I turned on my light...it took a couple of seconds for my eyes to adjust. There, on the floor, was my bala shark. WTF? How did he manage to get out of the tank? I have it well covered, there is only one open spot where the glass is broken on the tank cover, it's maybe an inch wide. Somehow, the bala must have gotten himself through that hole, really an amazing feat. Needless to say, I scooped up my fish and put him back into the water. This is the same fish that had managed to wedge himself into a decoration a month or so ago. He must have a death wish. He's lucky I was here and awake or he would have just been a dried up bit of fish flesh this morning. I think it is because my live plant is growing out of conrol and has taken over much of the empty space in the aquarium. The bala is feeling confined and then he spooks.

In any case, it is something I'll have to deal with later as I'm heading into work today...it's supposed to be my day off. Sigh...

your plants are growing wild because of their nitrate absorbtion. if it start dying it will release nitrate back into the tank and you'll have an algae bloom. removing half of the growing plant will give charlie tuna some much needed room and also take tons of stored nitrate out of your tank.... i used to harvest calerpa in a sump tank for my reef aquarium (ages ago, before the berlin method), my nitrate was always near zero and went 2 years without a water change too. of course, i didn't have a huge fish in the tank

...That which does not kill me merely pisses me off!...

Sounds like it's time to mow the seaweed? Either that, or, as you say, he wants to become sushi. Poor fishie, maybe he's depressed?
