The Never Ending Road Trip

I'm so fuckin stressed out today!

I'm still trying to pin down my move date to Iowa. It looks like it will be close to the end of this month. A friend of mine is heading out that way on leave and we're sharing a Uhaul. So, whenever he gets leave is when I gotta go.

No big deal. I have a good bit of my stuff packed. Not as much money put away as I'd hoped. But, I'll just have to make due.

One big catch... Mini-Mari has to be at her Dad's in Iowa no later than the 20th. I looked into airfare and have been keeping an eye on the prices. Fucked up as it may be its actually cheaper for me to drive her there (even with the soaring price of gas). For some reason that weekend is double the price that I usually pay to fly her out there.

So, I have a lot to figure out in a very short time. Do I do cough up the extra cash and fly her out? Or do I make one neverending fucking loop between Washington and Iowa? I usually love road trips and would much rather drive than fly if time allows. But, I'd be doing 6000 miles in like 2 weeks. AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

Maybe I should just say the hell with Iowa and run off to Nevada to dedicate myself full time to readytolay_3 's cult (errrr church).

Yeah, I figured I'd give it a month and see how the other half

I don't really mind driving long distances... I actually enjoy it. I found some campgrounds along the way so I thought Mini-Mari and I could make a little vacation out of it. Just not looking forward to driving back half way across the country by myself.

Sorry to hear about your stress. Just take a big deep breath, let it out slowly.

Make the best choice you can, and GO FOR IT.

Thanks Mav, It looks like I'll be driving. Probably for the best. There's something about driving down the interstate with the stereo going that really relaxes me. It'll give me a chance to get away for a few days.

(What the fuck is this shit..?? *rolls eyes*)

I lived in Iowa City for four years. I can't speak for the rest of Iowa, but Iowa City is a great town.
The prices for airline tickets these days are crazy
Good luck with your move, Mari!

Thanks... I've lived in a few different towns in Iowa. Cedar Rapids was my favorite. So, four years in Iowa City? Does that mean you're a Hawkeye?

Sounds like a long ride I've never been one for long road trips but thats usually because I'm not the one driving. If I was I would imagine the solidarity of it all being able to escape everything for a while and just enjoy the road and the music would be relaxing and a great escape.

Don't overdo it though with the stress though.

Thanks, I'll try not to let the stress get to me too much.

You sound a lot like me regarding road trips. I don't do so well if I'm the passenger. But, if I'm the one behind the wheel then it's sheer nirvana. You described it perfectly... "a great escape".

Yep...Hawkeye. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 99. Those four years were some of the best years of my life. Some of my friends are still there. I've been back to visit a few times since I left, but it's been a few years now. All I remember from a couple brief visits to Cedar Rapids is the unique odor generated by the folks at Quaker oatmeal.

LOL... and people wonder why rent on the south side is so much less. I looked at some nice houses there but couldn't get past the smell. So, I settled for a smaller place with higher rent in Marion.

Newton, Iowa was a charming town.
I even liked Des Moines.
But of course visiting a place and living there are
two different things.
Never been to Iowa City, but it sounds great.
Best of luck.

The only thing I really remember about Iowa City is the college and the bar district (which go hand in hand of course).
