the best exercise

On Saturday I attended a march to protest the war in Iraq, coinciding with the 3rd anniversary of the "shock and awe" campaign. The turnout wasn't great. 50 or 60 people, I would say, but after months and months of following the news and inevitably getting riled up by it, it was nice to be around people as riled up as myself.

There was a police presence there, but it was benign. They were there to halt traffic, as we held up some intersections. That had to piss some people off, but it's also an occasion to stop and think. Anyway, the police were helpful, but I wouldn't be surprised if some video was taken of the people participating.

I met some activists from my town, so now it'll be easier to start doing things asopposed to just complaining about them. Hehehe.

During the march, we were heckled by some beer-swilling jock from his upstairs balcony. "You guys just don't get it, do you?" he said. He also said something about peace being preparation for war. Something along those lines. And I thought, "So why aren't you marching for the conflict, if you feel so strongly about it? Why aren't you exercising your freedoms while you still can?"

I'm torn on this particular subject myself. I dont think war is good on any level. At the same time I support the brother served in Iraq for a year and it was the most stressful year I think Ive ever had in my life. These guys and gals are only doing what they are told, therefore I have to support what they are doing. Do I think the troops have been there long enough? Hell yes! Do I think they should come home? YES! Here again, at the same time, I believe that anytime there is a tyrant in the world..and the world is at risk from this particular individual(s)..and all reasonable steps have been taken to try to resolve the issue, then sometimes taking action leaves no other option. Lets face it, the world is full of not so good people. Sad, but true.

I am not going to comment because I think you have to be careful talking about politics
