Strange Movies..#4

Ever have one of those don't want to do anything but veg out? Well this is one of those days for me.

I've gone through one of my baskets of video taped movies. "The Day The Earth Stood Still" caught my eye. Haven't seen that one in a long time.

This one is a sci-fi classic folks. From's directed by Robert Wise and stars Michael Rennie..Patricia Neal..Sam Jaffe..Hugh Marlowe.

An extra-terrestrial ambassador..Klaatu..lands in Washingting D.C. He and his robot..Gort..have come to Earth on a peace mission. Shortly after landing..Klaatu..reaches inside his garment for a gift he wants to present to the leaders of earth. He's shot for his trouble.

He evades the politicians..soldiers..and the media..who are in a frenzy..causing fear and panic among the population.

Toward the end..he sets up a meeting with some of the leading scientists of earth. Now that Earth has nuclear poses a danger to other planets. The in peace or be destroyed.

Probably the most famous line in the movie..
"Gort! Klaatu barada nicto!"

Hell, saw THAT in the movies. Now you know why UFO's don't make themselves known, Would you? We're probably under quarentine.

"McVeigh had the right idea, wrong address."

"This ain't Dodge City, and you ain't Bill Hickok."

In the original story, the twist at the end was the robots were the intelligent life forms, the humanoids were the servants of the robotic police.....

You're right. Those in power have an agenda and not always on that is good for the people.

I thought Klaatu was pretty cool also Not sure I'd want robots like that around. Ever see that movie "Matrix" or read the book "Demon Seed"..where robots take over and subjugate the humans?

Thanks for coming by. This is one of my favorites.

It think it carries a chilling message. More valid today than ever.

If you like classic sci-fi..this is a good one.

If we are under quarantine..can you blame them?

I can't get that phrase out of my head. The movie message is very appropriate for these times.

Now that I didn't know. Would have made the movie's message even more chilling from that perspective.
