And He Calls That Love?!!

A poem found on another member's blog My bare hands prompted this post. I'm hoping you don't mind digdug41 digdug41 if I post your handle and picture here and give you credit for jogging my memory.

Just some statistics. Every day in the USA..at least 700 women are assaulted by their intimate partners. 4 are murdered. These figures are considered to be low estimates. Domestic violence..touches all classes..all races..all religions..all countries. Countries like Mexico..Brazil..Norway..just to mention a few..have high incidents of the murder of women by their male partners. It is not the exclusive domain of any one group.

In September 2005, the Violence Against Women Act..came up for renewal in the U.S. Congress. It was renewed.

A man who will raise his hand to a woman..and strikes her..beats her..to my way of thinking is not a man. A man protects..he cherishes..he supports and provides emotional and spiritual nourishment to his woman. Love does not batter.

I've been struck by a man..only once in my life. He was out of my house..practically with his next breath. I guess I'm a bit crazy..in that when I loose my temper..I just don't care. And if I'm threatened..all it does is piss me off. I told the gentleman in question..he had to sleep sometime. He got the message. If he had stayed around for beddy bye..he would have awakened minus a few parts.

The next time he showed up at my doorstep..my kids showed up..with the other kids in the neighborhood. They had brought sticks and bats..(damn they got there fast). The guy took one look at all those kids..standing there..ready to defend me..he turned and left without a fuss. He never came back.

Those are fine kids!!!!
There has to be a serious consciousness raising that No violence will be tolerated. Period.
I've had to try and protect women who had protection orders and the cops could not be there 100% of the time. Many of the victims have come forward and tried to get help, and society failed them.

Getting people to relocate...setting up new lives...very hard stuff.

Would rather be able to lock the bastards away and throw away the keys.

I know what it is like. My current girlfriends' sister is constantly battered by her boyfreind. We have calle dthe cops, I have personally beat the shit out of him, but she lets him in over and over again, it is very frustrating.

I do not hit women, nor do I hit children, although I myself was a beaten child. I made a promise to myself never to do the same, and I have stuck to it.

What took me so long to respond to this? But I do think my opinion on this topic is already well known. On Copperhead Road it's a hangin' offense. Any male who would abuse a woman or child either verbaly or physically is NOT a man. No exceptions, no excuses, it just can't occur. Any male who would do so deserves everything he gets. The kids were right in what they did, and the male lucky he wasn't hurt. Down here such an individual would get a "talkin' to" by his friends or neighbors. We just don't tolerate it. Joe
