Home Again

I've returned from the stomping ground of my youth. Although it is always good to visit, it is even better to return home to the more familiar. I suppose vacations aren't intended to be exhausting, but I find that this one was particulary so. Part of it is, of course, my early departure this morning. Waking up at 3 am, with about four hours of sleep is something to which I am no longer accustomed to doing. Even though I dozed on the plane(yes, I am one of those jerks who can sleep just about anywhere and flying doesn't bother me in the least), it wasn't enough to recharge the batteries. In short, I'm tired. I summoned enough energy to get my mail and retrieve my pets from the vet. But I suspect I won't be worth a damn for the rest of the day.
It was great to see my daughter. Looking well and doing well. I even got to meet her latest beau, a tall, blond, blue-eyed farm boy from Nebraska, trying to make his way in the City of Big Shoulders.
I guess my daughter's reasoning was that if he could survive a few hours with dear old dad, he might actually have a shot at making something of himself. I hope I didn't intimidate him too much.
He did take an unexpected pass at having dinner with us on my last night there, and my daughter offered no explanation for his abcense. She didn't berate me or make any accusations that I may have been "too hard" on him, so I can only assume that he felt it would be better for him to skip this last outing. Of course, I can understand his point of view. He was expecting to meet the father of his girlfriend. He wasn't expecting, in this day and age, to encounter a fire breathing dragon. Well, not every encounter can have such a felicitous ending as Beowulf's.

You didn't intimidate him, did you? Poor guy. Was probably shaking in his boots.

One of these days, I need to get back up there. Preferably in the summer, so I can hit Wrigley Field to see my CUBBIES!

Glad to see you back, sweets...

Thanks, good to be back. If you go, go slightly later in the year because the weather was still less than ideal. Highs were only in the mid 50's, and with the wind, felt much colder. Not good weather for us Florida folk.
