Gracie vs. Hughes

The man who pretty much established the UFC against the most dominant welterweight in UFC history. Should be one of the best matches ever. I suspect it will be exciting, but also rather short-lived. I don't expect it to go past the first round. And I don't expect Matt Hughes to win.

Hughes is very good, make no mistake about it.
He is dominant is his weight class. He's an excellent striker, has great take down and wrestling skills. His ground and pound is brutal, to say the least. Not to mention that he comes into every fight in tremendous shape, ready to go the entire distance if required. Stamina will not be a question for this
UFC warrior.

But Hughes has never fought anyone of Gracie's caliber. Royce Gracie is extremely hard to hit, either while standing or on the ground. Gracie's goal is to get the opponet to the ground and it does not matter to him if he is on top or on the bottom. He has such a vast bag of strangle hold and submission tricks that he is effective in either position. Once Gracie is locked with his opponet, he always positions his head in such a manner that the opponet has no chance of damaging him with either punches or elbows.

Many may suspect that Gracie may be somewhat out of shape because he has not been in the octogon for such a long time. I don't believe that for a second. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is the life blood of his family, fame and fortune. I doubt if he was ever out of shape. He also has the advantage of being taller than Hughes. Hughes will have to come in dangerously close to get off his barrage of strikes, which should give Gracie all the opportunity he needs. Not to mention the fact that Gracie throws some of the most wicked knees ever seen in the sport. And let's not forget the judo gee, should Gracie elect to wear it into the octogon. Many an opponet has foolishly concentrated on pulling and tugging on that to gain advantage, meanwhile being distracted by this false path while Gracie works his magic.

Would I like to see Hughes win? You betcha! It's extremely hard not to like this rugged Iowa farmboy. But I'm putting my money on Gracie. He is a master in a world of apprentices.

I'm rooting for Hughes. He's so dreamy... *swoon*

Should be a good matchup. Are you gonna come out to Rudy's to watch with us??

You know, I think that's an excellent idea. 'Bout time you (and everyone else) got to put a face with my handle. I just hope it doesn't scare you!
