Words To Live By...

In April, of last year, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 74th birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older.

Maya Angelou said this:

"I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow."

"I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights."

"I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life."

"I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as "making a life."

"I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance."

"I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back."

"I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision."

"I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one."

"I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back."

"I've learned that I still have a lot to learn."

"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

people only remember what touches them ,or if its real good or real bad ,just think of how many only remember th war on Iraq ,but how many forgot about ( 9/11) well its up on us soon an yes we are still in a war ,but its not all about Iraq ,its right here in our country also ,nobody takes the time to set an feel,or look at any of it,just there own little life is all that matters ,or there own little world they create ,but don`t even no there neighbor,its a shame ,well all we can say is hope`s an dreams are still alive ,lets just keep praying other get real an feel it before its to late,hugs from us

You're right, some people do remember only what touches them. But a lot of people care about the plight of others also. Sometimes it may seem like they are not out there, but we are.

9/11 terribly breaks my heart to this day. All those innocent people being slaughtered. The pain and sorrow of the family members. It's just too much to deal with emotionally. I'll never forget that heinous and inhuman act!

It does seem like some people don't care for each other anymore. The coldness, rudeness, mean-spiritedness, backstabbing, etc. It's really disheartening. But we don't have to be like that.

I LOVE MAYA ANGELOU,SHE IS A GREAT MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER AS WELL AS ONE OF THE GREATEST POETS OF OUR TIME,TO LISTEN TO MAYA ANGELOU IS LIKE LISTENING TO YOUR GRANDMA OR GREAT GRANDMA.....YOU ALWAYS KNOW THEY ARE GOING TO SAY OR SPEAK FROM LIFE EXPERIENCES,WISDOM THAT CAN ONLY MANIFEST IN MAKING YOUR LIFE EASIER.SO I LOVE HER FOR BEING ABLE TO REACH THE MINDS OF WORLD LEADERS AND THE SOULS OF TODAYS YOUTHS......GREAT POST SIS.............TIYANNAH

Great post, Karmo! All of these quotes are fantastic, but the one that really stands out for me is, "I've learned that I still have a lot to learn." You never stop learning. Once you feel like you know all there is to know, you close yourself off completely. Well done, Karmo, and thanks for posting this!
