Oh How I Wish....

I would love to move to the Netherlands!! Amsterdam to be exact. It's something I've wanted to do for years. I don't know what draws me to that particular country. But, I want to go!

Unfortunately, there are multiple things going on in my life that prevent me from going. *Sigh* Do I chuck them aside and do what I want to do? Even if it means hurting someone? Where would I get the money to make such a move? What would I do for a job there? Where would I live? What would I do about transportation? How would I find my way around? Would their government allow me to move there? How would I ever learn Dutch?

These are just a few of the questions that I would have to answer before trying to make such a move. Then, there's my family. I would miss them terribly! With time, I'm sure I would adjust to being so far from them. It wouldn't be easy though.

I guess I have a lot to think about.

I wish the same thing you do but a different place and the same thoughts run through my mind. Money to get there, job. I do have family there so it would not be that bad but that would be a very very huge step and like you say I would be leaving everyone behind.

Not that I have much of a family here in the states but I have some family here. Sigh!!!!!

I see ya got my email

Hey babe! We think a lot alike. It would be wonderful to achieve a major dream like moving to someplace we dream about. But alas, lack of $$$ and other things rears its ugly head. Who knows? Maybe one day we'll get lucky and be able to realize those dreams. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Yep, I got the email. Thanks!

Hey there, KarmoHunny. Have you ever taken a vacation there? I think I'd want to visit a place before making the decision to actually move there. All those questions appear to be valid ones. I agree with you. You should think about it some more. Good luck, and have yourself a nice day, KarmoHunny.

Frank

Hi Frank! No, I've never been to the Netherlands. Or the Netherland Antilles or Canada or anywhere outside the US. What an exciting life I lead, eh? Your advice about visiting makes a whole lot of sense. I'd hate to move somewhere and it turn out to be Hell and be trapped there. That would really be bad! So, I'll do some more thinking and try to save up some $$$ to go and have a look-see.

Thanks for your advice. You're such a Sweetie!

Hugs

Is this photo from the Netherlands? It looks like the Flatiron building in NYC. Hope you get there someday. Make sure to write!

Hi TJ! I don't have a clue where that building is...LOL! It was on my computer so I decided to post it. I imagined that Amsterdam would look something like that. It probably is the Flatiron Bldg. in NYC. I'll be sure and write if I ever make it over there. I'm sure there'll be plenty of sites to see and fun to be had. Thanks for your post!

Hi KarmoHunny,

dreamswyou, said what I would suggest.

I was so close to visiting Amsterdam a couple years ago. Before I bagan my cruise throughout northern Europe, I had a few days to spend in London. I really only had one full day, so I used it to go to Paris instead. It was closer and easier to get to. Amsterdam is definately somewhere I still would like to visit.

Cheers,
addy

Hi Addy! To be able to cruise Northern Europe is so cool! London is another place I'd like to visit. I'm interested in the history of the city. Maybe you'll get a chance to visit Amsterdam before me and can tell me about your experiences. I'd love to hear about it. Thanks for your post!

Peace

LMAO...I looked at the pic, saw what the building looked like and figured what the post would be about. I figured...hmmm...I bet she'd like to go to amsterdam. Does anyone else see that or am I just screwed in the head? Sorry, I misjudged.

Well I know alot of people, including myself that would like to go there. I don't know about living there...although the fun factor would be very high. I am kinda partial to the states myself.

I also agree with the others, visiting first might help a bit.

rm_KarmoHunny replies on 7/10/2006 9:25 pm:
I agree too that visiting first would probably be the best thing to do. I know nothing about how they operate over there. I'm sure it would be a culture shock too. So, I guess I'll try to save up some money to vacation over there. Then, I'll go from there. Thanks for your post!

I dream everyday about how much I would love to drop everything and disappear to some exotic country and live there.
Could happen.

It would be nice if it were that easy. You're right, it could happen!

Hi! Just a personal opinion (with the usual disclaimers)- beautiful country to visit but the culture shock would be huge and (no insult to the Dutch intended) the language is not that easy to learn and not easy on the ears either. I'd suggest maybe an extended vacation instead. Send us a postcard!

rm_KarmoHunny replies on 7/14/2006 1:47 pm:
Thanks for your insight. I will see about visiting there. Why would the culture shock be huge?

From what I saw, a much slower relaxed pace and yes, what people might have read about a more open attitude to sex in general is true! Just struck me as far more easy going. Although that would depend on what kind of life you're used to here - having always lived in or near a large city it was a huge change to me. And I'm sorry but I found the language ugly - no other way to say it.

rm_KarmoHunny replies on 7/15/2006 3:39 pm:
I've always lived in or near large cities too. I don't mind the slower pace with things. Open attitude about sex? I don't have much to say about that. Seeing how I'm on a sex site. I've seen the language written but never have heard it spoken. It looks complicated! Thanks for the information. I appreciate it!

Go for it...life is too short to ponder...just make sure you have a back up plan..Amsterdam is a vibrant city and embraces people with open attitudes and wisdom to boot!!! Sounds like you to me!!! PS did I mention I have been and will go again once my kids can handle the flight!!??

rm_KarmoHunny replies on 8/2/2006 11:03 pm:
Thanks for the encouragement Bali! Amsterdam sounds like a great place. I really hope to go there one day. Hope you and the kids will have a lot of fun! It'll be a great experience for them too.

Peace

Oh forgot too mention...you open the entry as How I wish..and go on to say how can I...how about changing your mindset to This is how...it may help??

(((hugs)))

rm_KarmoHunny replies on 8/2/2006 11:06 pm:
Girl, if you knew all the stuff I have on my plate, you'd definitely understand why I wrote "how can I?" My plate over floweth! I'll work on trying your suggestion though. My oldest daughter told me that if I moved to Amsterdam, she'd probably follow me there. That would be way cool!

Peace!
