What do you do?

Family. It's why we do the things we do. Whether it be for our children, whether it be for our spouse, it is all the same. We work to support our families,as well as ourselves, and that is why we work and why we get up at god-awful hours of the morning, drive countless miles to a "job" and why we put up with our bosses treating us like shit.

Or is that the reason? Is it the money? Is it the recognition? Is it the challenge? Cause it pays the bills? Or is it because it is something for now until you either finish school or find the real career you hope for? Why do you do it? Why do you put yourself through the torture? I know we all have to make money, I know we have to all pay our bills, and I know that in order to survive in this society, we have to work.

But....

What if money were not a factor. What if we lived in a non-economic system and everything were free? Would you still do what it is you do??

Of course not. If we all had a choice we would probably be sitting on a beach somewhere sipping on margaritas and catching some rays, right?..

uh huh..

So, with that being said, I have some questions for you...

1. Without naming your company, tell me what it is you do for a living.
2. How long have you been doing it?
3. Do you honestly enjoy your job?
4. Are you paid relative to your position? (in other words, would someone with as much experience be paid the same, less, or more?)
5. Why do you do it?
6. If you had a choice, what other career would you want to do?
7. What career would you NOT want to do?
8. What kind of hours do you work? (mornings, evening, or late-night)
9. Do you like your boss? (if you have one)
10. Do you like the people you work with?

Hope your holiday was good, and I hope no one got burned by a rogue firework...

1. Without naming your company, tell me what it is you do for a living.
Botanist
2. How long have you been doing it?
10 years professionally. But really much, much longer
3. Do you honestly enjoy your job?
Getting to like it less and less.
4. Are you paid relative to your position? (in other words, would someone with as much experience be paid the same, less, or more?)
Depends who you work for. Despite what people think, federal civilian employees in my field are paid pretty low in the scheme of things.
5. Why do you do it?
Love my field and the people I work with
6. If you had a choice, what other career would you want to do?
Same just different aspect of it
7. What career would you NOT want to do?
EMT
8. What kind of hours do you work? (mornings, evening, or late-night)
Mornings
9. Do you like your boss? (if you have one)

As a person, very much so. He's not a very good boss tho.
10. Do you like the people you work with?
I Love them. They are some of the best I've ever worked with-top in their field. And it's primarily what keep me there.

1. Without naming your company, tell me what it is you do for a living.
I'm an ICU nurse

2. How long have you been doing it?
Depends, nursing in general or ICU? In general 10 years, in ICU, 6 years

3. Do you honestly enjoy your job?
Trick question, most of the time yes, but there are things about it that really make me hate it, when the things I hate about it really outweigh what I love about it then I'll be looking at another field, nurses get burned out for a reason ya know. Last time anybody bothered to check, new grads make it in this field about 3 years and then start looking for something else.

4. Are you paid relative to your position? (in other words, would someone with as much experience be paid the same, less, or more?)
It's a pretty much across the board thing, the difference comes in when your talking about location, different states pay differently, FYI, Florida is far from one of the highest paying states, so for now I'll continue to do the travel thing and keep my options open.

5. Why do you do it?
Wow, lots of different reasons, the first being I like to try to help people, especially if it's a challenge, guess thats why I like ICU as compared to the floor.
Other reasons, money, job security, benefits, it's a respected field.

6. If you had a choice, what other career would you want to do?
Funny you should ask, been asking myself the same thing recently, along with ALOT of other nurses I know, refer to burnout, I always wanted to try landscape design.

7. What career would you NOT want to do?
Garbage sanitation, plumbing, anything electrical

8. What kind of hours do you work? (mornings, evening, or late-night)
Right now on days, 12.5 hour shifts, but have worked the night shift, depends what your looking for, alot less hassle doing nights, but your never sure of the day, they all blend.

9. Do you like your boss? (if you have one)
I have a few of them, for the most part we get along fine, the upside to my job, if I didn't like them I'm only stuck there for 13 weeks then I can go somewhere else.

10. Do you like the people you work with?
Very much so, I guess I'm lucky in that regard, there are very few people that I actually have a hard time getting along with.
