The Killers--Mister Brightside

I'm between seminars while on this business trip in Florida. After three days of new software and sales training, my brain has the consistency of pulpy brown goo. I needed a break to listen to some cool tunes and regain my constitution.

For some reason, Mr. Brightside has been a recent favorite song. It's a little ditty about jealousy and reminds me of a woman I wanted to be involved with many years ago. But she chose to be with one of my other friends. I vowed after that to never feel jealousy about any other woman and generally, that has been true.

I've been thinking about jealously lately. It really is one of those human, if weak, emotions one feels when expectations and desires are denied. My traditional solution has been to flirt without mercy with everybody and draw interest. Those that wouldn't play, I'd let them go without a second thought. Those that flirted back, I'd leap upon.

But I refuse to let myself feel jealousy.

The next song in the cycle is "Learning how to smile" by Everclear. The next one will be "Please Don't Hate Me" by Insane Clown Posse.

(Gimme a break...I was a DJ many years ago)

Heh - I told ya - jealousy's one of those dusty little boxes we all need to haul out and investigate more often. It's not an actual entity unto itself...it's a collection that usually has some other root issue. Insecurity, loneliness, desire...It's a pretty wasteful emotion, IMO.

Oh sweet man... from this woman's perspective, this is so wrong!

"My traditional solution has been to flirt without mercy with everybody and draw interest. Those that wouldn't play, I'd let them go without a second thought. Those that flirted back, I'd leap upon.

A man who throws himself at every [hopefully decent] woman in sight until he "sticks" somewhere is the one I run from. The key word in there is "play" and that is what you are doing... playing with emotions, and it's not nice at all.

Apparently the depth of depravity here is bottomless... don't you feel right at home?
