Packing !

A busy day getting ready to catch an evening flight to Scotland.
We always leave things till the last moment and just hope that what I forget, my wife will remember.
Its always the little essential things that can easily get left behind. probably we should make lists weeks before in the hope of not missing anything !
So here is a question ...
Are you super efficient at packing for a vacation and have you ever forgotten anything really vital ?

Soemething for me to read when I return

Yep, nothing like a list. I always make a list out ahead of time, but have been known to forget where I put the damn thing!!!!!!!

i sometimes make a list. depends how much else is happening in my life at the time. but i have this one wierd rule... on the day of leaving, from the moment i wake up... "if i touch it, i pack it". alarm clock: check. toothpaste/brush: check. you get the idea.

and i learned my lesson in packing, too. just because i'm travelling overseas where they have huge markets, cool cheap clothes, and i plan to just shop till i drop and wear THEIR clothes... bring multiple back-up outfits. I went overseas for 3 weeks. Brought under clothing, pajamas, and the clothes on my back. Planned to go shopping immediately. But got in a fight with the friend I travelled to meet, and ended up not having time or anybody else to take me shopping for 5 days. yuck

'Touch it pack it' is good advice.
Flying budget airlines, the weight limit is a bit of a pain...it's nice if you can throw everything in the cases if you need it or not

Losing your list is worse than having no list

well: the 'touch it, pack it' is usually more for camping events. but i've used it for travelling. As for weight limits... i only travel with carry-on's. um... at least GOING. i ended up bringing a checked back larger and almost as heavy as i am returning. Shopping spree out of control. heh.

You sure love your shopping !

The packing worked fine, nothing was left behind....both flights were early, lots to see and do....just a shame that the Scottish weather could have been a little better !

I always start with a list and try to imagine everything I could possibly need, and then start another list for "carry ons". That way I'm more organized going. Once it is packed, it's crossed off my list and I go on down the line. I've never forgotten anything, but I'll be riding to the airport, thinking, "Did I forget anything?" But by then it's too late, and you just have to go with the flow, and buy it where you're going, or live without. One time I went to Alaska, and the weather here in Seattle had been pretty good and people told me Seattle and Anchorage were the same weatherwise--I didn't take my jacket which I needed when we went to see Glaciers on a boat...BRRRR (bought one and still have it! It's my nicer going out coat in rough weather) LOL!

I once forgot my electric shaver and had to settle for razor blades.....not an enjoyable week
