Lest They Be Forgoten

Green Blood Among The Stones

Who stands guard on hill 8-80 now
Who watches the sun rise on the Golan Heights,
That once warmed the Irish soldier's brow
Who sees At-Tiri's shadows
thrown by silver moonlight,
on a Lebanon's cold lonely morn
Haddathah's call to prayer that echoes
through barren wadis, falls on no Irish ear
We have gone now, gone safely home.

But we saw the cry, heard the moon mourn
Lebanon's dry land haunts our very soul
For there is green blood there
where the cedars once had grown
We will not forget them, those we left behind
Each morn the sun sees us cry,
each night the moon helps us mourn
We shall always remember that in Lebanon's soil
There is green blood among the stones
