Where's the Grizz???

Grizz is my old dog. He is a huge guy, about 150 pounds. He is a Rottweiller/Shepherd mix and he is just a great old guy at ten years old. I recently got a puppy to try and keep him active and he has really taken her in tow and she now has some pretty good manners because of him. She is just starting training and she is so imitative and he is so well trained that she is being well trained too by his example.

Well, today I went into town and left the pups in the yard, as usual. It is a 5 acre yard and the guys have never left while I was away. They don't have to, the neighbor's dogs come over to play chase and so they have a pretty good sized pack to play with right in our yard.

When I came back from town today, Grizz was gone. No sign of him. I drove around looking for him -- talked to all my neighbors and... nothing.

Maybe I have translated my anxiety to the puppy as well. She is just moping around. Just like me. I keep thinking that maybe he had a stroke or something and I am afraid I will never know if something fatal has happened to him. That will bother me a lot.

I don't want to talk about him in the past tense, so I will wait, and hope that he comes home during the night. Maybe he just met a lady.... He is, after all, a handsome dog.

Having met Grizz, and seeing what a great old dog he is, I can only say that I hope that you're right. Maybe he will be home in the morning. Maybe a neighbor thought that he was lost and took him in... in any case, I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for all three of you - Grizz, Pooter, and you.

Grizz wandered back at 4:00 this morning. He is healthy and well, no obvious injuries or wear and tear. And, the seemed genuinely happy to be back.

Thank you for your concern and good wishes. I guess this old dog can still hunt.

I am very happy that your beloved GRizz came home. Maybe he hunted and found a lady!
