Valentines for Veterans

Hello, My Dear Hearts!

I'm not back in full form *sigh*, but I DO need your help.

This year, my civic organization is going to be sending Valentines to the Veteran's nursing home. These Valentines will go to men who served during wars starting from WWII to Korea and Nam...to Desert Storm to Operation Freedom.

This event is one that I'm going to take some time with; our men certainly deserve to know that people are so very thankful and that we keep them in our rememberances.

So, I have construction paper, glitter and a pair of scissors just about ready to go to make special hearts. I'm going to send a little of my Sweetest Magic; my Greatest Glimmer with each one I make.

*Is there some poem or Thought you'd like for me to include?
*Is there something special YOU would like to express to those of Noble Heart?
*Is there some honor you'd like to give to Our Veterans?

I hope you'll help me spread a little love. If you can start writing now, I'll do the lettering for the cards on Sunday night.

I'm sorry to give you such short notice, but I hope you'll have just a few minutes to add to the Magic and Sweetness.

To send a little love to our very own Viet Nam Veteran, please go see Joe at [blog fastfifties]. I'm extreamly proud of him and others who served during that time. They ARE my heros!

Aww shucks Dys, you're making me blush, LOL. Tell you what, no one ever joins the service to get a thank you. We really don't expect it. But DAMN it's cool when it happens. *smile* I think what y'all are doing is awesome. Blessed be Darlin'. Joe & Carol

Sassy momma I am back with a newly created quote by myself for this Valentine. I hope you like it. It might not sound like Shakespeare but it is from the heart.

The thoughts of appreciation is on my mind
The heartfelt appreciation is in my heart
Those could be put into beautiful words
but words can't say it all every single time
I would rather pray for you to be safe
and wish for your everlasting happiness
May this day of love be filled with love
The love that will put a smile on your face
today, tomorrow and forever

Love your Sassy Chickie

That kept the beat of the drum
And defended our democracy
Please accept the
Greatest gift we can give
With every beat we salute you
A valentine for our veterans
Forever
The heroes of our hearts

Yes he would, LMAO. But this one thinks that what ya'll are doing is wonderful, and he thanks all of you for giving a damn, on behalf of those who serve now. They deserve it. Joe

*sigh* I really can't contribute. I loathe the military/police establishment with a passion only those who have lived under dictatorships can understand. Still, send a hug from me to anyone who will be alone that day...

i just discovered your blog...what a delight.
and what a fine project.

not a poem, just a note..possibly with a WWII pin-up or a rockwell

here's a valentine
to remember
your first love
the smell of your mothers kitchen
the reasons you served
and fought for
especially your buddies

we know you fought for them
but your service
save the world

thanks
for everything

Don't hate the playa, Karma, hate the game. God I hate that adage. Not every soldier is a good soldier, not every cop is a good cop (not hardly), but for the most part, we are just average guys and girls put into sucking situations, and trying desparately to get through them. And believe me, I'm NOT a big fan of the cops, LOL. I spent 17 years total service in the Army, with 2 tours as a recruiter, and honestly, the Army made me the man I am today. I am VERY grateful for having served, even tho' I sure as hell wasn't happy to go to 'Nam. But it was my job, and I went. I'm sure today's soldiers don't want to be in Iraq, but, like those before, they went. To generalize ALL military and police as you have really isn't fair. I'm sorry for your experiences somewhere else, but it wasn't in America (at least not yet), and you do a lot of good people a disservice by lumping them together with the enemies of your past. Regardless of our feelings about this, or any other war, without our military/police forces, your life would truly suck. Until such time as humans become decent critters, we're gonna need them.

Hats off to you for taking time from your life to do this. Not many of us follow through with such endeavors. Sounds like I may be late with my comment...since you posted this a few days ago. But wanted to express my admiration anyway.

No wonder you like vets so much, Dys. Damn, a LURP! Now that was REALLY ballsy. USMC version of the Green Berets and Navy Seals. Ran into them a couple of times while flying dust-offs, tough bastards they were. As for myself, just a field medic, either in the bush or in dust-offs. Just call me Doc. So yes, Dys, I know.
Karma, please don't misunderstand me. There is nothing glorious about war or killing. I didn't like it then, and like it less now. But our military does not and has never fought for glory (oil maybe). We're there because it's our job, because we gotta be, because that's just the way it is. And if we don't then who the hell will? But don't you worry your little heart about any soldier being alone tomorrow. Not one of them is ever alone, they are surrounded by their brothers and sisters, and it's a big fn' family. I know, I'm proudly part of it.
Do I love cops? Oh hell no, and I've got good reason for it. But they still do the best they can to get the bad guys. Have they fucked me? Oh Yeah, in spades ($10,000 worth), but I would STILL help a cop if he was in a pickle against bad guys. All in all they are NOT bad people. They're just like you and I. We're all in this together Karma.

Soryy Dys, for taking up so much of your blog. Guess I shoulda kept my mouth shut, but just couldn't. Mea culpa. Joe

OK, NOW I know why Karma made the statement she did. She's from Panama, and doesn't have the same concepts to draw on. Karma Darlin', there's a BIG difference between what you know because of governments who evidentaly have lived under, and the way the police and military are looked at in America. While you probably have good reason to hate and fear them, we have no such feeling here (at least not yet). And by and large , we LOVE our soldiers, yeah and even our cops. Because they are US. Hopefully one of these days you can experience that feeling too. Hopefully everyone will. I will now shut the fuck up.

fastfifties, the Panamanian military and police establishhment was created by the US to serve its needs. And loyalty in the military, being mostly male, fastens onto an institution. There is nothing more dangerous than an institution that can seend people anwhere to kill and die on command.

I regret you think I am tarring you all with the same brush, but it's a little difficult to distinguish individuals in a herd (no offense, I'm a leopard at heart -my personal eccentricity- so I use the analogy).

If I may add one little wish. For Karma, I wish that one day she will live in a society where we don't need police or military. I wish this for us all. Until then I do wish she lived in a country where the police and military were not fear or hated, but loved and respected. I am truly sorry for your experiences karma, but it simply isn't that way here in America. Joe
