First of all, I hope I dont get sued for the above title. lol
Secondly, after reading other peoples views and Blogs recently, and having a rather angry spat with my employer over 'forgetting' arranged days of leave, I quit my job of 3 years on Saturday night.
As of today (Monday 20th of March), I have started a new chapter in my life. I no longer am going to continue to fall behind in the IT industry, and worry that my knowledge and skills are not up to scratch. That all my hard work is going to be destroyed by some moron who decides they want to look up an unsafe porn site on the net and ends up with some super-duper virus.
Today I started something new and I hope will be worthwhile and fulfilling. I signed on to begin a course in Aged Nursing.
Yes you may think this is a rather strange jump of path from It to cleaning bedpans and you would be right. But I want to try something that will make a difference and some good to someone else for a change.
I must say that a lot of my inspiration has come from some people that are on this site and in particular a person who recently decided that she was going to go back to studying herself.
All I can say is that this is a very big leap for me and I hope I am doing something right for a change.

Did I also mention that I found out today that of the 22 people in the course, I am the only male.
Could make for some new blog material. Who knows.

Hope it goes well for you.
CNA work can be very rewarding!!!!

I have done it in the past for several years.
(and there were many men who worked as well)

good luck

Chipster; Very Surprising is an Understatement.

Can I suggest that before you invest to much time and effort in the course that you read a book called "What Colour is My Parachute" as it can help you with re-directing your career path and also life path.

I personally would have suggested the defence forces as your IT skills would have been highly valued. Hint Air Force is the Way to Go, better conditions and better male female ratio.

I am not trying to knock your decision to do aged care nursing, but I will warn you that the money is not good, and any career needs to reward you mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially for it to be satisfying.

Just some thoughts for you.

Hey Chipsta,

Gee i knew you were pissed off with your boss from the message posted the other day, but i was shocked to see that you quit!!

I have gathered from things that i have read lately that you were not happy in your job, so good for you for deciding to try something else.

Just keep them eyes forward and dont look back. Good luck with your new chosen field (and with all the women to perve on) look forward to hearing about how things work out.

Congratulations on being bold.

I like people who take chances.

I walked out on my boss (complete dominating asshole) after I was expected to take on the job of four people (after they too quit). He wouldn't communicate with me, besides yelling... so the day the shit hit the fan, he got up mid conversation to answer a phone call in his office. I got my bag, my office things and walked out. No goodbye nothing.

Obviously there is more to the story but I felt like Ihad just jumped out of an aeroplane the day I did that. High on Adrenalin and knew it was the right decision.

Go you.

i think you are BRILLIANT! absolutely a real goer! you take life by the balls and give it all that you can! what an inspiration. set your own path i say! what is a few months to figure out if this is right for you? you are a highly intelligent man who can always fall back into IT freelancing, so keep up the vigor you have! all will turn out the way it is supposed to my friend! so has the boss rang and sucked up or what? i wouldnt be surprised if he did. pathetic pissant he must have been! hehehehe things happen for reasons and his inabiity to roster correctly was the final breaking point for you........so it was meant to be. best of luck though with aged care! its not easy! i was doing admin a couple of years back for a hospital that had an aged care wing and there was a woman with alzehmers (?spelling) and i had to slowly walk around her as she was in the door way and i accidently touched her waist! well within seconds she has her moccosin off and hit me FOUR bloody times on the head!!!! i didnt know what to do! so fromn then on, i would establish where she was when i had to walk through! hehehe i was more embarrassed than hurt and also sad that i had made her feel scared to lash out like that. but she was fine after she hit me and totally forgot what happened, but i didnt, i cowardly walked away feeling sorry for myself! oh the fun of it! hehehe enjoy it chipsta! its a quality trait to nurse someone who cannot care for themselves, the vunerability, etc. you will be a very special person to someone who needs you!

Besides you can tell all the old dears that you are their toy boy and that will cheer them up no end, it will have them giggling like schoolgirls again.
