Movie Review: "Good Night and Good Luck."

It occurs to me that my last two posts were kind of cranky, so here's something a bit different. I saw this movie on opening day, but am in a sharing mood today.
Clooney hits gold again.

If you're in the mood for a really solid, factual, period piece with a GREAT cast (including David Straithairn, George Clooney, Ray Wise (what an absolute joy he is to see on screen again..he has a sad, sweet presence here) Robert Downey Jr, Patricia Clarkson, Jeff Daniels and Frank Langella), this is the movie to see.

Unfortunately I went to see it when I was a bit tired, so I dozed off in parts, but I didn't miss much. The story, as you probably know, is set in the 1950's at CBS News. They get a lead on a story that the U.S. Air Force has tried and convicted an airman and deemed him a security risk, without ever showing the evidence to the defendant or his lawyers, citing national security. The defendant's father had Communist associations. Straithairn plays Edward R. Murrow, and Clooney his news director, who decide the story must be told regardless of what the U.S. Air Force and anti-Communist crusader Senator Joe McCarthy have to say.

Clooney has said that every scene was double checked for historical and factual accuracy, so you can learn something too by watching this movie. The acting is strong (Straithairn and Wise should be nominated), the dialogue is great and the script is sound, making it a rare gem these days. Although it can play a bit dry in parts, I highly, highly recommend it for history buffs or anyone who just loves movies that make you think.

I don't know, George is just seeming more and more flawless to me. Is there anything wrong with this gorgeous, sexy, ambitious and intelligent man? Unless he farts in bed, I can't think of anything..

Gee, to listen to the hype, it's supposed to be all about how Murrow brought down McCarthy. So there's more of a plot?

Sorry Cause, but I just don't think Clooney is all that hot. But I'm sure that's just me.
