Give Me a Fucking Break!!!!

I had to speak out on this subject!! Ok, if anyone read bardicman blog entitled WTF is up with this shit? you can read my comments on the illegal immigrants protesting. However, I am writing about another issue, dealing with the latin-americans. Everyone is up in arms about the recording of the national anthem in spanish, however, we have had the lyrics in spanish since the year 1919!!! It just wasn't recorded. I mean, I am not offended by the translation of our national anthem. I am unsure of why everyone else is!! We are the "melting pot" and everyone is all fine as long as everyone is melting the way everyone else is melting. The national anthem isn't any less American if it is sung in English. Now, before everyone jumps on my case about this, let me fully express that I understand that this is our National Anthem. It is for America, and all Americans. I feel that nothing should change about how it is sung before sports events, government programs, unless the hosts of the events feel to include the spanish version. After all this is America, and we do have the freedom to choose what we want to do. I do not feel that anyone should be criticized for not allowing the anthem to be sung in spanish, at their events, nor should those that do allow it, be criticized. The Spanish lyrics were commissioned long ago, yes, before "The Star Spangled Banner" became our National Anthem, however it was still our government that commisioned them nonetheless.

It is mainly about making something, a part of you. The latin-americans, are only attempting to make it feel more of a part of them. This isn't something that the illegals started, the latin-americans recorded a Spanish version, it didn't begin as a demand of the singing of both versions, it was just something for them. Well, this has been a non-paid,non-campaign, opinion on the subject, you may now return to more interesting reading.

No kidding!! Embrace and unify, not divide and villify!! It was meant as a tribute, not some sort of anti-american slam!!! I was horrified that W took the stance he did. Way to go, bub...alienate another large segment of your populous. Wait...sorry...bad choice of words.

Mow-rons abound.

The only thing that pisses me off about this is the fact that...

If YOU or any other english speaking American wanted to become a resident of mexico you would have to have a bank account and property owned in mexico. You would either have to speak spanish or pay to have a translator with you bacause all the paperwork is in spanish and the interview is in spanish and the mexican government does not provide translation.

I agree and embrace the USA being a melting pot. However, in order to keep it a melting pot there has to be a common denominator. Think about it.. things that melt blend in together. One of the common denominators should be the language.

This pot needs to be heated again so there is melting going on. As it is right now there is too much segregation and seperatism going on.

I am not dead yet

bard, I actually agree with what you said!!! There is alot of separation going on!! I understand the reasoning behind the recording of the spanish version, I just feel that the English version should be the National anthem, but let the latin-americans have theie version. I just want Americans to focus on bigger issues! yes, we have immigrants, yes I believe our borders need better security. But I just don't believe anyone is attempting to steal our anthem from us.

thanks for your input bardic!!!
