40 cups done - 20 more to go!

Woo, those 10 today just wizzed by. I did them in 3 hours, with only 2 flops. I have the knack for trimming the bottom to be smooth while still on the wheel finally down, so from here out, the bottoms are gonna be much better.

I took a break from throwing to visit a new goodwill store. A girl from my ceramics classes came in, told me about the opening, and asked if I wanted to go with her today. Since I still can't seem to make friends (people will talk to me, but I never get invited anywhere) I promptly took her up on it, even though I had only thrown 6 of my cups for the day. We went and she wandered off to look for her other friends who were supposed to be there. I pretty much didnt' see anything of her for the rest of the hour I was shopping. In a way, I kinda expected this and was not too bummed. I just don't seem to make close friends. Whatever body language clues that other people know how to do, I seemed to have missed out on learning. I can make tons of guy friends..but guy friends often seem to have a sexual undertone of some sort.

If anyone has advice on how to make platonic friends with women, let me know. I just don't seem to have the knack for it.

A good part about today is that my red welts showed up less. I still have a new set today, but they dont sting or itch nearly as bad as yesterday. What I did different is that I went and got clean throwing water after every 2 pots. Also, I didn't keep a sponge against the wheel to catch the flinging water. I noticed yesterday that the sponge was turning black from residue from rubbing against the wheelhead. My suspucision is that the constant wet rubbing from the sponge on the metal wheelhead caused a metalic residue to get in my sponge, in my water, and all over me. So, less pain than before (though still pain..especially in my forearms).

Almondnut, have witnessed this behavior between females. I suggest that it is not something you're doing but rather the way that men you are around look at you or perhaps the men talk about how attracted they are to you when you're not around. this may preclude other gals from wanting to be in your shadow.
All you can do is make an honest attempt and try and not let the frustration get to you. You seem to be a very confident lady, who knows what she wants and is focused on accomplishing her goals. You are successful, hopefully the friendships will come once you're out of school and have those business contacts that evolve into friendship. Keep smilin' and be happy with yourself, the friends will come.
