writing admission essays

I spent several hours helping my niece and nephew with their admission esays for expensive private boarding high schools. My observations: These 13 and 14 year olds have not practiced writing and are not good at it. They want to be done in a hurry without putting in the effort to write something true, original and well edited.

And my sister is worse as she is trying to hurry the project without understanding the process. I have to tread a fine line, helping but not writing the whole damn thing defeating the purpose of the project. Good writing takes a lot of time. The schools want to see if you care enough to devote the time to doing a good job of writing. Not all take the task seriously enough.

You are a good uncle...the thought of having to write an admission assay appeals to few of us...

I remember my older son's writing and spelling was atrocious, always...I decided the IQ tests were dreadfully wrong, he was definitely an 80 at best and I saw his future making license plates...decided I needed to help him find him a rich woman... happened to stumble across a story he was writing on the computer...my god the difference...I got new hope...amazing what a difference when someone actually WANTS to write something...or DO anything, for that matter...

They both want to get in to the schools! They just have not practiced writing and are lazy when hard work and thought are required! Made progress but have to work some more hours with them! This tak consumed the whole weekend, but at last it is done. Talk about a lost weekend...
