Yes, I can be irritating!

I have always been good at irritating people. You might say it is my special gift.

How do I do it? Easy. I am arrogant, smart, self-possessed and think I am right, even when I am not. These traits tick off lots of people.

But my worst offenses are independent thinking and honesty. I will often simply state my opinion that some received wisdom is complete bunk. People don't like that, and they are not shy about letting me know their views.

That is fine. Another annoying habit I have is that I do not mind if you do not agree with me. In fact I would prefer if you do not. Why? It is more interesting that way. I debated in high school. If everyone sits around agreeing with each other we cannot have a good discussion.

Of course lots of people get upset if you disagree with them. They feel there basic right to live is being challenged. No, just an opinion. Unless there is money riding on your opinion, chill out dudette!

Not being afraid to advocate an unpopular opinion is a good quality for a lawyer to have, especially for a litigator like me.

So don't get annoyed that I am irritating and do not agree with everything you say. It is more fun that way.

So many problems with arrogance, as you would know. Here's just two - how many people do you like in your life that think they are right all the time? And do you see those people with many friends? And secondly he who talks most learns least.

I do not need or want lots of friends. Fortunately I also like to listen and have a good sense of humor. So I will gladly hear what you have to say. My arrogance is just that I think I am right, and I am willing to offend you to stick up for what I believe in. I am not dogmatic except in opposing bigotry and fascism. I also know that there are lots of things that I don't know and each person has special gifts and knowledge that I do not know. Many people are smarter than me, and with better skills than I have in every area. I am persistent and good enough at being me. I realized my faults but do not let them get me down. Better to have a good sense of self-worth than low self-esteem. So I am humble about my arrogance! No point in being insufferable.
