Why infidelity?

Actually the more interesting question is why fidelity? I was faithful for over twenty years with two minor lapses. Why? I saw many attractive women and I had a few opportunities I chose to pass.

I was busy with career, raising a son, working on hobbies and was not as physically fit due to lack of exercise. I was less mature and shy about facing rejection. But these are not the deeper reasons.

I did it to please my mate, as she seemed to prefer it. And I was willing to keep a close watch on this heart of mine, to walk the line, to use Johnny Cash's song lyric.

So what changed? I feel she changed as we aged. She was not willing to sacrifice for me. She was not willing to do stuff for me as I was for her. At some point being taken for granted for so long starts to be too hard to accept.

A new person notices all the wonderful characteristics and charm that a mate ignores. The old stories and jokes are not so stupid to fresh ears. The joy of first discovery is intoxicating. The rush of adrenaline from novelty is entrancing.

So now to rediscover the joy of sex with a willing partner in crime. Have to learn how to use condoms and enjoy them but there are alternatives...

Fasten your seatbelts for the rollercoaster ride!
