Now that Brown of FEMA has been hounded from office we can stop the blame game as we have someone to blame, right? NOT.
There are structural problems with our creaky state and federal structure that impeded prompt response to the disaster. We need a NORAD type arrangement with clear power to order evacuations, provide transport, fix communication, speed rescues, provide food and water, house evacuees and get short term and longer term needs filled.
Post 9/11 and now post Katrina the Federal Homeland Security group needs to rethink the importance of national disasters compared to terrorism.
Eventually there will be a big California earthquake. By then I hope al levels of government will work more swiftly and intelligently.
Meanwhile plan on relying on your neighbors and yourself with water, food and money to flee if needed.
