Rosanna Arquette's "Searching for Debra Winger"

Watched this documentary about older women actresses and the problems with balancing careers with having a child and getting decent parts. All the actresses seemed very talented and much more intelligent than the characters they were allowed to play!

I agree with Salma Hayek that we need more women screenwriters, producers and directors, plus smart women studio execs to green light intelligent sexy stories of intelligent older women.

The problem is the demographic of film viewers is boys under 25. With DVDs and cable, there should be a market for female stories with older women stars.

Consider "Sideways", "Terms of Endearment", "Adaptation", "As good as it gets"

Aside from Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep and Shirley MacClaine, and a few appearances by Diane Keaton and Debbie Reynolds, very few older women actresses are working. Sad.

I think older women (defined by Hollywood as over 35!) can be smart and sexy! Lets mob the studios and set them on fire like they did to the castle in Frankenstein!

Though I agree with you on principle, you have left out two women who not only get a ton of work, are over 40 and bring gobbs of people to the box office, they are also among the higest paid actors in Hollywood...Demi Moore and Julia Roberts.

Demi Moore and Julia Roberts are both great, but they do not get as much work these days as Reese Witherspoon, Kursten Dunst or Angelina Jolie!

I think Meryl Streep is the finest actress of this generation and she does not get much work any more!
