Expensive car toys
Expensive car toys
I am a certified car nut, having read Road & Track and Car & Driver since my teens. I have owned some fun cars, but I am amazed at some of the expensive toys people are driving! In the last few days in Pasadena, I have seen:
two Bentley GT's, a newer Viper, Cadillac XLR, Porsche Turbo and GT3, Mercedes S55 & SL55, some Lambo Gallardos and two Ferraris!
The Rusnak dealership also has expensive Rolls, Bentleys, Porsches, etc.
I am impressed not just with the high acquisition cost, but maintenance, depreciation and insurance is quite expensive for these toys! Some people have serious money to burn!

How about giving me (all of us) your insight into the best purchase values for sports cars. For example (my picks):
Under 20K Eclipse
Under 30K Mustang
Under 40K Chrystler Crossfire
Under 60K ?
Under 80K Viper

I prefer buying a used car, preferably certified, to avoid big depreciation in first two years!|
I would buy a modified Mustang cobra 2003 for $25K! Or earlier supercharged Mustang for less. I would get a 2005 Mustang GT and supercharge it, but it would cost $30K +.
I would never buy a viper. Too uncomfortable and too much gas expense, plus I do not care for convertibles. Heavier, skin cancer, less stiff and poorer performance. Plus if you flip you can die! Cannot run on many tracks.
I would buy the new Corvette Z06 for $70K or new Shelby Mustang duein a year and mod it, but very expensive when first out. Wait another year and much cheaper by $10K at least!
I like the new Mercedes SLK55, but again have to wait for a used one!
I would not buy the Eclipse! I owned one and the transmission sucked! Poor build quality. Plus Mitsubishi is dying. Subaru WRX STI is possible! Or Lotus Eglise if have $45K to burn for a toy.
