Culture of Life

The Bush Admin and prolife advocates like to talk about a culture of life. Well that all depends on whose life and whose death are in discussion.

Most civilized countries around the world have given up the death penalty for crimes. Except China, Saudi Arabia, and many states in the US. How does executing people foster a culture of life?

The War in Iraq has cost many American lives and far more Iraqi lives. How does that war foster a culture of life?

Global warming will destroy many human and animal lives, yet the US refuses to do anything about it while most scientists say it is real and CO2 is the problem. How does our inaction foster a culture of life?

Many older motorcycle riders get on the new super bikes and are killing themselves! The percent of riders over 40 dying is up from 9% in 1992 to over 40% now. Not a culture of life to me.

Oregon's assisted suicide law has only been used 208 times since it was the first and only state to allow this approach in 1994. Allowing terminally ill people in pain with cancer to end their lives with dignity is more in keeping with a culture of life than making them suffer. Either way they die, but who will decide how?

I think individuals should get to decide their own life and death, not the Federal or State government. Decisions like aborting a fetus inside a woman in the first trimester, sexual activity in private, ending your own life, or removing a loved one from a machine who is brain dead. The person directly affected should decide unless incompetent; if they are incompetent, then their legal spouse or parent should decide.

I think people should act responsibly and make their own decisions, not expect the government to decide for them. That is my view of a culture of life. Live your life, don't let others live it for you.

What amazes me is, these people claim to value life, but all believe in the Rapture and are praying for the day that 2/3 of the human population is killed wholesale by God!

See, only God is allowed to take a life. Unless it's your pet, who you are allowed to put out of its misery when terminally ill, but those pets don't have souls, according to these people. Because, if they did have souls, since they can't embrace Jesus as their personal God and savior, they'd be damned to Hell if they did...

Therefore, it's more than acceptable to kill of endangered species, destroy previously protected land, cut down trees, even though we actually need those to live, to provide the things that people believe they need.

Now, you might ask me... What of those over 40 bikers dying? Hey! They think they look damned cool on bikes and fossil fuels are what it's all about! Bush would be on a rice burner if he could! But those pesky Secret Service agents won't allow it!

What of the death penalty? Ah... God supports the death penalty, so it's a law brought down by God. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a mote for a mote. Therefore, it has to be right. Even though when Jesus died on the cross and said, "it is finished" he meant the laws in the Old Testament. But hey, if it works for them...
