"Imagine" by John Lennon

John Lennon's song "Imagine" was voted number one in a UK poll by Virgin records with 7,000 responses. A pretty and idealistic song, but...

I take issue with the notion that eliminating possessions would increase the joy and wonderfullness of life. I am cynical enough about human nature that I don't think communism or socialism works too well. Look at Russia. Hell look at most families, the kids cannot even share one computer or bike very easily.

When everyone owns something no one wants to improve it or invest lots of time into it as you cannot be sure it will be there for you tomorrow! Private property and capitalism creates much more wealth and material riches.

In Russia before the fall of communism the collective farms were very inefficient while the small personal plots fed the nation!

I have done well without religion, but many find it comforting! And faith has inspired many great art works and wonderful music, which I enjoy regardless of the religious message.

Still, a great and inspiring song!

In my opinion, organized religion is the earliest strategy in obtaining private property, wealth and material riches, etc. Jesus H. Christ, to this day, is the most successful capitalist to walk the earth (or water, so I have heard)

The church was the richest organization after the king and government in Europe and most of the early civilizations. So they also believed in private property for the Church.
