My best friend

My dog, Devito, is my best friend. He is such a sweetie. I love him with all my heart. I share everything I eat with him and let him sleep in my bed. He likes to burrow under the covers. Either he curls up by my legs or I pull him up and sleep with my arm around him.

I got him from the Humane Society approx. 3 1/2 years ago. He was 10 weeks old at the time. He was there with a brother but I chose him for 2 reasons...I liked his spots and his behavioral assessment said that "he took treats gently". He certainly does too. Never nips at my fingers being too anxious for the food I share.

His only annoying quality is his sometimes incessant barking. He barks at the mailman, my neighbors, and even people walking past my house on the sidewalk. When he gets too noisy I put a muzzle on him for awhile. He hates the muzzle but he sits there very docile while I put it on him.

He loves to go for walks and I love to walk with him. He is so cute that occassionally people driving by slow down and comment how cute he is.

I never thought I could love a dog so much!

And of course the barking is his way of protecting his pet master. He doesn't want the 3 1/2 years of training to go to waist. He's got you trained to give him treats, and he ever lets you sleep in his bed.

Haha. I used to have some really cool dogs in my life. I remember one named Hondo. He looked like a long haired Irish Setter. We were walking in the woods, and I got lost. And this is not an exaderation, or lie. I told him, "Hey boy, I think we're lost. Show me the way home." I followed him through some really thick brush, for about 15 minutes, and we popped out very close to the house. He understood me, I was sure. I was only about 9 years old, but from the point on, he was my most favorite dog even.

I have a wonderful, smart standard poodle that NOW lives 2-blocks away. I still see her almost every day for a game of (you throw & I'll run) but miss her presence muchly. My (our) last dog died two years ago after 14-1/2 happy years. Miss her too

Dogs are great. And all of them have at least one bad habit. Our dog will tip over the garbage can to get at a dirty diaper. He'll then chew it up. You can't begin to imagine how disgusting that is.

But beyond that, he's the greatest dog in the world. He's very loving and loyal. And he's fairly obedient too. Not bad for a mutt picked up at the humane society when he was two-years-old.

I enjoy the company of a dog and delight that you have a great relationship with your animal.

I have had many past relationships with dogs, but now my life situation would not do justice to having a dog. I am rarely at home and it would not be fair to leave my dog couped up, alone, at home.
