Sept. 11 posting
Wrote an entry in the magazine section of this site. Here it is:
Can we not kill each other for one freaking day ??
It's September 11th and many people have taken some time today to reflect on the attack to the US 4 years ago. I may say some things here that may offend some, but it is not my intent to offend anyone. If I do, I apologize ahead of time. I am in no way downplaying the tragedy and lives given up/lost on 9/11, but the media play of stating that this is the day that "the world changed" strikes me as being wrong. Yes, it was a tragedy, and lives were lost needlessly and families were broken, I am not disputing that. But the fact is, this is not the first nor last time innocent people and civilians were killed needlessly. Where is the mass mourning of the victims in Afganistan, Iraq, Somalia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Uganda, Tibet, Viet Nam, China etc... ?? Where is the mass mourning of the other victims of terror, war, systematic genocide, and other ignorant acts of violence we as a species commit against one another. Does death have to have a Western face to count ?? The fact is, the acts of 9/11 still happens every day, every minute. Some on a smaller scale, some on a larger scale. Look at your local news, it happens in your own neighbourhood probably. I don't know what the media is talking about, the world hasn't changed a bit, innocent people still get slaughtered as I write this. I think the day that the world changes will be the one day where on this whole planet, everyone agrees that we simply not kill one another. For one freaking day, can we as a species pull it together and just not kill each other for 24 hours ?? If that day ever comes, then that would be the day when the world changed. 0
