Last day of vacation

This is the last of ten consecutive days that I had off. Assuming that my badge will get me in the door and my login is still recognized, I hope that I'll be able to capture some serious enthusiasm in my work starting tomorrow. I also hope to hit the snacks a little less heavily, so that I can be a little less heavy.
I did have a cold starting New Year's Eve. That kept me from the festivities. I hope that I've recovered enough to get through the workday tomorrow. I intend to go to bed at 9:00pm tonight. Although I may toss and turn for four hours, at least I'll get the eye rest I'll need.
I have to remember that tomorrow is Tuesday. That may be the hardest part of all.

First loaf of the new year

I caught a cold, so I'm not feeling very well. In fact, at midnight on New Year's Day, I was in the bathtub instead of enjoying the fireworks and festivities. It took quite a bit of what little energy I have to get the bread maker going today. But, as soon as this loaf cools down, I'll have warm turkey and Swiss sandwiches.

In Oregon for the week

I may not be online as often as usual this week because I am in a place with bad Internet access and lots of interruptions. I'm not sure whether I'll go back to Seattle in time for the fireworks on New Year's Eve, or catch the in Vancouver (Washington), or just catch the subtler Oregon fireworks. Of course, if there was anyone in the Portland area that would like to meet me in person, this week would be ideal.
...yep, anyone at all....

I did settle on a netbook. It's been reasonably powerful for the maybe 10 hours I've used it. It did hang a few times, though. Nonetheless, it was reasonably effective as a means of broadcasting myself here and on Alt, so it looks like I'll occasionally be online while I'm visiting my family in Oregon.

MORE GAMES!

I went on a spending spree this month. Earlier this month, I visited Portland and decided to look into a few stores that have historically carried used video games at good prices. I ended up spending $60. When I went back to Oregon for Thanksgiving, I decided to check those stores again and spent $56. Then, when I got home yesterday, on a whim, I searched up websites selling used NES games. I ended up placing an order that cost $61.44. When I throw in a small purchase made at Value Village, I end up with a grand total of $182.49 spent on 133 console and portable video games over the course of two weeks.
...Maybe I'd better hold back on purchases for a month....

The demise of "the Brick" has been some time in coming, but it looks like it has finally arrived. It very suddenly has decided not to recognize the hard disk. If it were more critical, I might be trying to do more to resurrect it. However, the monitor hinge has been broken for months and it weighs a ton. So, it's time to move on.
The only issue is that, although I have no data on the hard disk that I need, that disk does contain personally identifiable information. SO, I'm just going to hold onto that until I can destroy it.
At some point, I'll have to replace it with something. I haven't decided what I want. I could go with a tablet, which has the advantages of being lightweight and low power consumption. I'd probably want one with a webcam and microphone built in. It may not be completely suitable for chatting without an external keyboard however. The second choice is a low-end, low-weight laptop. I could have a DVD drive in that, for when I want to watch my admittedly-small collection of DVDs. It would have a built-in keyboard, making it easier for chat. WIth built-in camera and microphone, that might be ideal. However, what if I'm in a position where i want to do some high-end computer work? That leads to the third option, a state-of-the-art high-end laptop computer that would be heavier, more power-consuming, and more expensive, but would also be capable of any task I'd ask for in a computer.

If nothing else, if you are reading this, you can be thankful for being somewhere warm enough and dry enough to be able to visit a sex site on the Internet.

Frustrated!

I suggest that those of you in serious financial difficulty (like choosing between food and electricity) skip the rest of this entry. I'm not in poverty, so in many respects, I have no right to complain. But, I'm going to moan, anyway.
For those who may not have been following along, I've been trying for over a year to sell my house in Vancouver. I call it "the albatross" because it's hanging around my neck and dragging down my long-term financial plans. About ten days ago, I accepted a low offer. Although annoyed, I figured that it's my best chance to get rid of it in the short term, as winter tends to cause buyers to go into hibernation. The inspection occurred on Monday, and I wasn't expecting too many surprises because it was inspected on a previous offer about two or three months ago. Shows what I know! The buyer wants about $7,000 in repairs, on top of the lowball offer! I have to let this buyer go.
I am beginning to thing that it's time to research the possibility strategic short sale. Even if this buyer decides to accept the house in its current condition, I'll be writing a check for close to $30,000. That's on top of all of the extra money I had been paying into the mortgage for the three years I lived there. I had been on a schedule to pay it off in ten years, so it's not like I couldn't have taken a significant loss. It's just that it is a huge loss that I'm looking at, and it's really frustrating.

There was way too much leftover candy at work. I would have devoured it all if I had stayed. Admittedly, I have leftover candy here, too, but I also have the ability to work on the pedal exerciser.

Yes, I kept them from last year and I'll be wearing them again for this Halloween, despite how it apparently confuses people. About an hour ago, I had some guy page me with something along the lines of "you're not hetero because you're wearing cat ears." Well, I am hetero and I am wearing cat ears, so there!

One of the best things about thrift stores is the chance to stumble upon a bit of nostalgia. This Fisher-Price vehicle is the same model as one that my good childhood friend had. It was the right size for our G.I.Joe figures, so it tended to see significant play. I'm going to give this one to him as a present. I'm not entirely sure how he'll react.

At the moment, I'm in Oregon visiting family. It's been fun so far, but also busy. I might be online tomorrow. And yes, I didn't post a picture.

Forget having a sex slave! I just want someone to go out and get me some ice cream sandwiches for the sore throat I seem to be developing.
...Okay, I suppose having both a grocery slave and a sex slave would be good, too. But I really want an ice cream sandwich right now....
