I've been very up and down recently. I've had some unpalatable interactions with a coworker which have beaten down my confidence. I also received another offer on my house that I've been trying to sell for over a year. I had been very pessimistic because I expected the buyer to back out when the inspection report became available.

Now, however, I will soon be changing roles which will allow me to cease interaction with the troublemaker. And it looks like the buyer has accepted the inspection report and will proceed with the purchase.

I'd rather be more even-keeled. I don't feel particularly productive when I'm too high. When I'm too low, I feel like it's a major weakness on my part and that I'm letting down the people around me. I want to blame everyone else and I feel like a hypocrite for doing so.

Well, what did you think I meant?

Seriously, I have fun putting together these Lego Technic sets. I have to humbly admit that I screwed up a couple of times on this set. I had to undo about forty steps and redo them because I had put the wrong piece in a foundational location. At some point, I'll have to dismantle it to make the alternate model. Then, I'll have to dismantle that to recreate the primary model. Then, I'll have to dismantle that and then reassemble it, just for fun.

Slush is depressing Jan 20, 2012 7:06 pm

The only acceptable way for snow to disappear is by sublimation. After it stops snowing, the sky should clear and the temperatures should drop so that the snow stays cold. Direct sunlight can then slowly evaporate the snow. And the snow remains looking pretty during the entire process.

Snow and ice Jan 19, 2012 2:09 pm

I've been trying to work at home all week due to the weather. I wasn't getting much done yesterday, so I walked to the office in the evening and got a few good hours in. As I was walking home, around 9:00pm, I had to be careful. The pristine snow had a 1/8 inch sheet of ice over it. The streets still had wet slush, but the slush on the sidewalks was starting to harden up as it got colder. I haven't even tried to go out yet today.

This bed is a pain to move around, especially when I'm trying to move it in a 350-square-foot condo. One would think that it would just roll, but there is a weight-supporting post in the middle of the bed. That required me to pull off the mattresses in order to move the bed.

The goal of this little maneuver is to create space next to the wall in order to place the new shelf which I purchased. I still have to put it together, in the same lack-of-space.

Snow day is coming Jan 14, 2012 3:50 pm

The weather report calls for some snow here in Seattle during the next few days. Although I like snow, I am not particularly excited about urban snow. When I think of snow, I think back to my childhood when I would hike up the nearby hills in order to do some sledding. To be honest, I'm at the age where I'd rather stay inside and play video games, anyway.

Last day of vacation Jan 2, 2012 7:02 pm

This is the last of ten consecutive days that I had off. Assuming that my badge will get me in the door and my login is still recognized, I hope that I'll be able to capture some serious enthusiasm in my work starting tomorrow. I also hope to hit the snacks a little less heavily, so that I can be a little less heavy.

I did have a cold starting New Year's Eve. That kept me from the festivities. I hope that I've recovered enough to get through the workday tomorrow. I intend to go to bed at 9:00pm tonight. Although I may toss and turn for four hours, at least I'll get the eye rest I'll need.

I have to remember that tomorrow is Tuesday. That may be the hardest part of all.

First loaf of the new year Jan 1, 2012 3:29 pm

I caught a cold, so I'm not feeling very well. In fact, at midnight on New Year's Day, I was in the bathtub instead of enjoying the fireworks and festivities. It took quite a bit of what little energy I have to get the bread maker going today. But, as soon as this loaf cools down, I'll have warm turkey and Swiss sandwiches.

In Oregon for the week Dec 26, 2011 6:43 pm

I may not be online as often as usual this week because I am in a place with bad Internet access and lots of interruptions. I'm not sure whether I'll go back to Seattle in time for the fireworks on New Year's Eve, or catch the in Vancouver (Washington), or just catch the subtler Oregon fireworks. Of course, if there was anyone in the Portland area that would like to meet me in person, this week would be ideal.

...yep, anyone at all....

I did settle on a netbook. It's been reasonably powerful for the maybe 10 hours I've used it. It did hang a few times, though. Nonetheless, it was reasonably effective as a means of broadcasting myself here and on Alt, so it looks like I'll occasionally be online while I'm visiting my family in Oregon.

MORE GAMES! Nov 27, 2011 9:14 am

I went on a spending spree this month. Earlier this month, I visited Portland and decided to look into a few stores that have historically carried used video games at good prices. I ended up spending $60. When I went back to Oregon for Thanksgiving, I decided to check those stores again and spent $56. Then, when I got home yesterday, on a whim, I searched up websites selling used NES games. I ended up placing an order that cost $61.44. When I throw in a small purchase made at Value Village, I end up with a grand total of $182.49 spent on 133 console and portable video games over the course of two weeks.

...Maybe I'd better hold back on purchases for a month....

My laptop, 2005-2011, R.I.P. Nov 26, 2011 2:37 pm

The demise of "the Brick" has been some time in coming, but it looks like it has finally arrived. It very suddenly has decided not to recognize the hard disk. If it were more critical, I might be trying to do more to resurrect it. However, the monitor hinge has been broken for months and it weighs a ton. So, it's time to move on.

The only issue is that, although I have no data on the hard disk that I need, that disk does contain personally identifiable information. SO, I'm just going to hold onto that until I can destroy it.

At some point, I'll have to replace it with something. I haven't decided what I want. I could go with a tablet, which has the advantages of being lightweight and low power consumption. I'd probably want one with a webcam and microphone built in. It may not be completely suitable for chatting without an external keyboard however. The second choice is a low-end, low-weight laptop. I could have a DVD drive in that, for when I want to watch my admittedly-small collection of DVDs. It would have a built-in keyboard, making it easier for chat. WIth built-in camera and microphone, that might be ideal. However, what if I'm in a position where i want to do some high-end computer work? That leads to the third option, a state-of-the-art high-end laptop computer that would be heavier, more power-consuming, and more expensive, but would also be capable of any task I'd ask for in a computer.

If nothing else, if you are reading this, you can be thankful for being somewhere warm enough and dry enough to be able to visit a sex site on the Internet.
