Pix on AFF

[blog anabella] has a really thought-provoking commentary on images on AdultFriendFinder. This is a must read post called "images".

A friend of mine wants to put some profile pix up to generate more email.

Because of my background and experience (journalist, photographer, television script writer, 100's of political campaigns) I have some pretty strong opinions about pictures and images and what they do and don't say about people.

One can capture the real person in a pic or one can create an illusion..either way its an art and an abstraction. We are visual image critters...and we make value judgements instantly based on images.

There is also a context element...

AdultFriendFinder is a very specific context with the overwhelming majority of the members inticed to join by all of AdultFriendFinder's promotions that this is basically a huge sex swap meet, thus any female on the site is presumed to be looking to get laid by a stranger.

Hence all the emails women get that say "let's fuck" which from the blogs pisses most of the female bloggers off.

Then there's a lot of profile pics that are very straight...obviously ladies looking for long term quality relationships...but in the midst of a visual image environment with ladies posting very explicit exhibitionist type images.

I'm guessing here but my take on pics is even if one posts a very "straight" picture, they'll still mostly get the "lets fuck" emails.

What do you think?
The cowboys think it is very strange that AdultFriendFinder will allow someone to post a pic of their dick or pussy here, but not one of a cowboy standing by his horse.

I actually get very few "lets fuck" type e-mails. I think it has to do with my profile. If they read it, they won't waste their time sending a "lets fuck" e-mail.

I get one every now and then but mostly I get very honest, sincere e-mails. Unfortunately, the men who write them are mostly all way too far away.

I think you're right...regardless of the type of photos used...the guys who send those types of emails will send them anyway! Some folks are just clueless.

There's obviously a portion of the male population that always will be clueless. Too bad they're in the White House.

I dunno Punt. Carol and I decide long ago not to put up any XXX pics. We wanted people to see us right upfront. personally, while I like the nude pics of the females, Carol (and most of the women we know) despises the "dik piks". We require full figure pics before meeting anyone anyway. I'm still waiting for sopmeone to show up at Appleby's buck nekkid so we can recognize them from their pics here. And yeah, men being the brainless assholes that they mostly are, will STILL send the "let's fcuk" e-mails. But God bless 'em, it makes it so much easier fro gentlemen like yourself. It is my firm believe that good taste and manners NEVER goes out of style.

I love you two. The image of someone showing of buck nekked at Appleby's is priceless.

I agree. For a long time I didn't have a pic posted, and I got a few of the"lets fuckk" emails. After I posted a pic, fully dressed, clearly showing that I am no spring chicken, anymore, I still get them, and from all ages from 18-75. What I really dislike are the emails that are the first contact with me, and what pic do they send? Their cock-shot. That does not impress me. I want to get to know someone and at least be friends, before I ever want to see their package.

THEY still don't get it, even after seeing my pic the clueless still e-mail me. Well at least they no up front what they can do with their e-mails....Ready

I don't get many "lets fuck" emails. If a person is the type to write that email: they'll write it regardless of what pic you have up.

I hear you. Thanks.

I don't get many let's fuck e-mails either. I have actually received some wonderfully thought out, humorous notes though....

Good for you!!!
I think your profile pic invites that kind of positive response.

    Quoting rm_silkditty:
the "let's fuck" emails arrive even with no picture at all

the "let's fuck" emails arrive even when your profile states that all you are doing on A.F.F. is blogging

I hear men complain that they don't get response from women, but there is a reason for the non-response
NOT! just wanna conduct my own experiment

puntachueca replies on 8/19/2006 9:21 am:
I've been thinking about that...like try several different pix and rotate them and see if there's a difference in responses....
..a face shot but artistic...not full face
..upper back..hands reaching to unhook bra
..bare breasts from oblique angle
..legs crossed, lots of thigh

I've never posted a nude pic or even my full face (until my latest post). But yes..I still get the "let's fuck" emails..which..by the way..go right into the trash. There are some men..few and far between..who actually seem to read my profile and respond accordingly. I guess most men still need to learn that a woman is many things..not just one or two dimensional creatures..who are either virgin madonnas or whores.

LOL..I get let's fuck emails all the time and have since I started on the site many years ago. But I get the nice emails as well. By nice I mean the guys and gals that want to get to know me a bit...or they say they do LOL. Personally, if they read my profile and mention something from it, I do respond to them. The ones that just say "I want you" usually don't get my attention...but that's just me.

I think you're approach seems to be the majority here.

I say in my profile that I am not looking but even if someone thinks they are the 'exception' that I am already 99.9 percent sure that they are NOT...and tell them, several times in several ways to go on to the next profile...and *I* get dick pics, let fuk {that's a direct quote, btw...and the whole email that time!}, and so on. Reading this, however, I think I need to go in and say that since I am limited in responding {regardless of the person paying to be able to send emails} that they start to go in the trash. Although it does make a rather 'good' blog post sometimes...not that *I* would do that, right...? {Actually, it says in my profile that is EXACTLY what I would do! }

I think AdultFriendFinder ought to add another standard reply..."An escaped mental patient has stolen your identity and is writing sick emails..."
