Was I rude?

I guess everyone experiences this from time to time. Someone contacted me after seeing my profile. I wasn't interested in meeting anyone new right now. interesting people on my plate at the moment. I have enoughSo I used one of those short responces to that effect. He then sent me another email explaining what a lazy ass I was. You can't please everyone.
I guess my question is (and I think I know the answer, but still...) are those quick replies appropriate as an email responce?
I mean, I've emailed people who never responded back at all. I do not take it personally. Sometimes I am disappointed, but I chalk it up to karma. I know that I have frozen up and clammed up and screwed up more than once. Maybe these moments are there to re-establish balance. Open my eyes; teach me a leason or remind of something I had learned long ago but have been negligent practicing. Teach me to remember others feelings (even that guys; although he seem to take it pretty personally).
So, what do you think?

Rude is not answering. Don't sweat it, at least you responded. Some folks can't face rejection.

Not responding may ne rude. Short response = lacking time / energy / interest to elaborate, and being honest about it. That is not rude at all. For someone to pass judgement on you - that is rude.
