Road Work

I live in a walking city. My 2000 Civic has about 14,000 miles on it. But lately, I've been driving up and down I-95 several times a week. There's been a great deal of roadwork. I'm not sure if that's a new thing or not, but in certain sections, on both the northbound and southbound sides, there is traffic resulting from cutting this major highway down to one lane.

Ok. So I know there's ALWAYS been traffic on this road. I listen to the radio, even if I don't drive. But now that I'm actually there sitting in the traffic, I find myself staring at the side and middle of the road, looking at the nice green grass and wondering why they don't just add other lanes while they're so busy blocking me off for road repairs. I mean, wouldn't this help the regular traffic problem and prevent this one lane garbage? Is it a budget thing? Am I a horrible human being because I'd prefer to lose a little highway greenery than sit in traffic behind some truck shooting exhaust? Should I move to some kissing-cousins state?

I hate 95. I've never been on it when there hasn't been construction around the Philly area. The area is so congested anyway, it makes driving a joy. Oh wait, I don't drive anymore. I haven't driven in Philly since about 2002. But there was construction going on in the area even then.

Hmmm... can you take Amtrak? The Acela is a treat. (Is it up running again yet?)

I know, they're always working on it so why isn't it ever done?
