Paying The Price...

Last Thanksgiving, my wife and I spent a long weekend at one of the casino's here in Connecticut.

Yesterday and today...I paid the price for that weekend.

When we awoke, that Thanksgiving morning...the landscape had been transformed into a Currier & Ives print of Thanksgiving morning's of the past.

Pulling up the blinds...we saw everything covered by several inches of snow...and the size and regularity of the flakes still falling, continued to add to what had already accumulated.

"Not to worry, honey...we're still going to go." I told my wife. "It's not supposed to last long, and we won't get that much."

Needless to say...the skies cleared...the sun appeared...and we packed the car and drove to our weekend getaway...without incident.

The leaves that had fallen from the trees, all over the acre of land that we have...we're still on the ground, that Thanksgiving morning...a thorn in my side, for not having had the opportunity to rake, blow, bag, and get rid of them...before then.

When we returned from our weekend getaway, the snow that had fallen on Thanksgiving morning was still on the ground. I'm sure a little of it had melted or evaporated during our four days away...but there was still enough remaining to completely cover the ground...leaves, included.

Every opportunity I had to get rid of the leaves after that, did not lend itself well to the task at hand.

Rain...a foot of ice storm...and the remote possibility of ever getting to the leaves...before this Spring, was put out of mind...and off the mental-task list.

My lovely wife began the undertaking of the herself...a few weeks ago. By the second day, she needed to take three days off..!

Yesterday and today, I put in a total of eight hours...blowing...raking...dragging a large blue tarp, filled with leaves, sticks, and of course...the liquid concrete mixture of wet, soggy leaves...layered together with decomposing leaves, mud, and whatever that fuzzy white stuff is....down to a wooded spot, at the lower end of our property.

I finished at about 5 pm this afternoon, and as I finished putting away everything...and opened an ice cold Smirnoff Ice to relax body told me to have several more..!

"Either drink heavily or give us some Class A narcotics." came the voices of my shoulders, arms, legs, back, and especially my right elbow. Being predominately right-handed...the weight of the leaf-blower is responsible for my right arm now being two inches longer than my left arm..!

Thank God that tomorrow is Monday and I go back to work..! I need the rest.

Would I do it all again...go to the casino and say "fuck it" to the leaves.......?

In a second...Mrs. Prag hit a slot machine that weekend for $1,600.00..!

Damn! Leaving the casino with more than you took in is truly rare! Why didn't she volunteer to donate a few of those dinero's to some neighborhood kids to clear those leaves for ya? Hmmmm....

Ah, Its you again, Your Angel Feathers and your Blood Stains...

We're beating the odds, then...we usually walk out with much more than we've gone in with..! All I have to do is rub Mrs. Prag on her boobs...and we win..! She's VERY lucky...!!!!!!!.....

Neighborhood kids...? What neighborhood kids...? Oh, you mean those 10 - 14 year olds that don't do anything...ever?

I'm thinking you need to get a hot tub!!! Oh, and a smaller yard

pragmaticCTcpl replies on 5/1/2006 1:44 pm:
The real estate-for-hot tub swap will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2006, beginning at 2 pm.

Hot tubs must be in perfect working order...filled to capacity...pre-heated to 104 degrees Fahrenheit...and all required chemicals and maintenance items, for one full year, must accompany the tubs. Mrs. Prag will be trying out all hot natural.

Leaves, sticks, and injured body parts of Mr. Prag are included with the real estate.

All transactions are final...void where prohibited...residents of South Dakota and Guam are ineligible.

Novel idea: hire a lawn service to do the leaves with the $1600. You could sit and watch with your smirnoff ice...

I guess the moral of the story is, even when you win at a casino, you're really just breaking even.

The moral of the story SHOULD be.....

God created the trees....the trees shed their leaves all over the lawn, each fall....Smirnoff created Smirnoff Ice....let God take care of the leaves..!
