My Left Breast

Last November, I went for my first mammogram. Several weeks later I came home to a "generic" letter from the radiologist saying that I need to make an appointment to come in and have further x-rays of my breasts taken.

I called them, and they brought me into the office, that day. The female technician couldn't give me any information as to the reason I was asked to return. Other then..."We saw something and what to take an additional look at your left breast." Panic stricken, I say..."You saw something? WHAT!" The female technician said, "We will know more after these x-rays."

Did you ever get a pit in your stomach? I did.

After an additional week of waiting, I received another "generic" letter from the radiologist. This time it said something along the lines of this..." Mrs. Prag. your mammogram shows a small mass in your left breast. While, we are unable to detect this as cancer, we would not rule it out either. Please contact your doctor and follow-up.

"HOLY SHIT" Well, that letter certainly resolves them from making any mistakes or be held liable for anything. However, it leave me worried and nervous.

Both my internal medicine and gynecologist doctor looked at the x-rays. I was advised to return in six months to see if the mass grows. Since this was my first mammo they had nothing to compare it to and said that I would have to wait. It was small enough not do a biopsy. So the clock began to tick...

Today I go back for my six month mammogram. I have already had six months to think about any negative news. I makes me feel better that my recent physical and labs came back with no problems.

So, I'm off to have to have my DD's squeezed and compressed into something that resembles a huge pancake at IHOP.

Goodluck! I hope it turns out well for you.

I've never had a mammogram but I hear they hurt like a son of a gun!

I know what you are going through. Around xmas, i had chest pains and went for a catscan where they found nothing in my chest but saw something abnormal in my breast. So, i was sent for a mammogram which confirmed the abnormality, went for a biopsy and went through a major freak out waiting to hear that i have breast cancer. Its a horrible feeling, but in the end i found out there is no cancer, but now i am left with a one inch scar on my breast from the incision. I am glad that there is nothing wrong with me, but i am still angry that the procedure was unnecesary and left a scar on my body.

I hope all is well with you! ~hugz~

CC -- it sounds like you know what I'm going through. My test results came back and they are still seeing the "mass" on my left breast. Along comes another letter, telling me exactly the same as I was told 6 months ago (damn FORM letter, no less!), so now it's wait another 6 months...and go through it all again.

I know I can't ignore the problem, but I wish I could get a definitive answer so I don't have to live life 6 months at a time.
