I WANT MY MTV!!!!!!!!!

MTV turns 25 years old today. I look back on my youth and remember this :

Singled Out

Downtown Julie Brown

Beavis and Butthead

JJ Jackson

Remote Control

Mark Goodman

Headbanger's Ball

Martha Quinn

MTV Unplugged

Adam Curry

Nina Blackwood

Club MTV

The first video was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by Buggles. The Buggles, who? LOL

It was a time when VJ's introduced the videos 24/7 and looked really cool in their '80s outfits and big hair.

I use to enjoy all the music videos. Do you remember these artists on MTV?

Madonna, Michael Jackson, Human League, Culture Club, YES, Poison, Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, R.E.M, The Stray Cats, Prince, Dire Straits, Lionel Richie, Bryan Adams, Duran Duran, Motley Crue, The Thompsom Twins, The Bangles, Sheila E, Tina Turner, John Waite, Van Halen, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Eurythmics, Wang Chung, Night Ranger, Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis and The News, Pat Benatar, The Cars, Rick Springfield, Billy Squier, ZZ Top, Billy Joel, The Police, John Cougar Mellencamp, Ratt, Genesis, Cyndi Lauper and Bananarama.

Today on MTV, there are far less music videos.

It goes to show that sometimes you cannot improve on the original and you shouldn't even try.

Is it just me? I'm feeling vey nostalgic and miss the 80's.

Surely, on one of the thousands of cable TV channels they show OLD MTV. I used to know the bass player for Wang Chung, lol. Hope you find MTV for the over 30 crowd somewhere

I wish they did show old MTV somewhere on cable. I would be a regular audience. MTV is no longer about the music. So sad. It has given way to way too many reality series and TRL. TRL is just an updated version of American Bandstand with no dancing.

WOW, VERY COOL!!! I used to have their album and I saw Wang Chung open for The Cars. Dance hall days!!! Good times...good times.

I hear ya.. Way back when it first came on it was Rock and Roll dominated.. Why the hell didn't they leave a good thing as it was.. If they wanted to add hip hop, pop or what not, why not create another stupid channel.. MTV was awsome when i was in high school but i don't watch it at all anymore for the sole fact that a once rocking TV station turned soft. Used to love a metal show they had every Friday or Saturday night *band performances* and videos

Thanks for hearing me. Yes, MTV has a second channel called MTV2 but it is just the same old, same old stuff. These days there is no difference between MTV and VH1. Shame on MTV for trying to look like Entertainment Tonight and not staying true blue to the original fans that made them soooo popular and rich!! Just cause I'm older now doesn't mean I don't like to rock!

I was an MTV addict back in the day!!! Nothing but Vids - you know when the M in MTV actually meant something. Headbanger's Ball was our religion! Nina Blackwood was always the hot slutty one, but I always wanted to fuck the smugness out of Marth Quinn!!!

Ah, Its you again, Your Angel Feathers and your Blood Stains...

pragmaticCTcpl replies on 8/3/2006 8:55 am:
Yes, I remember it well. My friends and I would order pizza and sit in my parent's living room watching hours and hours of MTV. Ahh, The good old days...

The 80's were a very good and peaceful time for all of us mature citizens in blogland. MTV brings back som many good memories of the adolescenthood and like everyone else I want my old MTV back instead of what's out there today.

Good post and thanks for the memories.

Thanks BlackHeatLust. For some reason MTV has forgotten that even though we are older (with the money to spend) we still want to ROCK!!! Keep the bubble gum shit on VH1.
