Hmmm..I've often wondered how and why certain lyrics make some sort of a connection to another person...an association with certain moods or previous experiences perhaps.
Some songs are painfully obvious and contrived while some others are deep and mysterious with no discernable reference, yet somehow are much more evocative...maybe for just that reason.
But like poetry, I've always had difficulty seeing though and have gotten so old that I hand over the lead vocals to others with better memories (and voices) and stick to backup except for songs learned years ago and chorale works on the printed page.
But alas, it's much too late after playing in a stinky, nasty but very fun bar to be pondering the depths of the soul. Sleep awaits and indeed perhaps I shall dream before the tasks of the new day intrude upon my rest and pass the cemetary gates of the "little" sleep.

rh--what happened? some distasteful innuendos came my way, spurned by the green eyes of envy, and I chose to protect myself by eliminating previous stuff...purification by fire, if you will, so that I could emerge like the phoenix from the ashes...

will that do my friend?lol

zorgi--I'm the little sister of a former drummer, music always has an association with everything I feel...but sometimes, I just like the "evocative feel"...in this case, however, it has multiple meanings.

Very cool about your brother, Pink.
I've come to appreciate drummers much more in these later years. I often dismissed them to a degree, as is typical of the non-perceptive, until opening my ears and not just taking them for granted. I've learned that they can be very musical and when not trying to show how fast or loud or brilliant they were, they are truly an equal partner and ally to us Bass players in locking in a groove and staying in the pocket.
I've come to be much more humble and giving to be able to be the bridge between percussion and melody.
And for lyrics...I hear the music of the voice more as another instrument and the words as phrasing of that instrument instead of a meaningful communication device. Now THAT's not openning my ears for you. I feel the emotion with out necessarily knowing it's source. But life is only progress striving toward perfection knowing full well that it is an ideal and not realistic goal.
As Tommy Lee Jones once said..."A Buddhist soul in a Calvinist world".
Namaste.

I don't believe any words until they've earned my belief but I'll wait by the cemetary gates only as a possible friend

Best wishes

Always
