The different things that turn us on.

I've been discussing how different fetishes perhaps really have a common ground, and begin in your formative years.
As catastrophegirl pointed out in a comment, properly defined a fetish is some activity, object or whatever, that you require in order to become sexually aroused.

So I'm not really thinking about fetish behaviour at that level (some other time perhaps), I'm rather more thinking about things that get you excited, but others don't have the same reaction.

Those are things that, the community at large would call a fetish. Things like whips, bondage, handcuffs, cosplay, roleplaying, nappies, BDSM, and in my case a messy or painted body. These aren't fetishes strictly, except in rare individuals perhaps (I've never known or known of any such people - but maybe they exist).

I'm just aware that I find a couple of these things enormously exciting, some very good fun, others I could take or leave, and still others I wouldn't want to begin to try.

I don't think you become attracted to these behaviours by any conscious effort. I posit that the attraction to such behaviours starts well before you are consciously aware that adults could behave in such ways. Indeed, in your early childhood.

So, similar question to last time. Can you come to love those things in later life, as much as someone who was "born" with that desire.

Can you as an adult, "catch" a fetish? It sounds exteremely unlikely.

Iv known of such people, I once met a guy who couldn't get off without being thoroughly beaten, humilated and subdued in the course of intercourse....

was very strange to say the least

I can freely admit I could not take him to the extremes he wanted

Oh yes you can come to it later in life, the need had been beaten into him by an ex wife......

his new fiance had come to me for help getting it out of him, I told her they needed a psychologist....

Interesting question, I had to come back to this blog about 3 times to lay down a post....almost debateable. I say you may have a fetish in your adult life that may have been birthed at that time, not realizing that you may have had it as a child but never experienced it until you were older...If that makes sense.

DukeAbbaddon I actually agree with you. The dick pics aren't appealing at all. Including mine. Is that your butt?

CuteAZguy27 yes it does make sense to me. I'm not sure most people could unravel it really.

wyvernrose interesting. Of course we don't know his childhood.
This is fetish in it's proper sense. I have no problem imagining that you'd have normal function, reach a point in your life where your fetish takes over, and with the right help or circumstances get over it as well.

Yes, it's all quite interesting. I feel rather amateurish discussing it of course, just speculating.
