When I was young we lived in the poorest county in the state.

We were one of the poorest family's in the county.
My dad worked in the woods until I was about 5 years old. Then he became a professional gambler.

For the next 16 years he was always gone he would come home once or twice a year, and when he was gone he never sent any money.

We lived off what we could grow, shot or catch with a fishing pole.

We hunted year round and fished all the time.

We never had indoor toilet or hot running water until I was 7. We heated water on a wood cook stove and bathed in a big old metal tub.

So I've never had what you would call essentials until I got married then we had a tv,washer and dryer.

My brother and sister never for gave my dad for not being there and providing the things that the other kids had. It didn't bother me that much. I was a loner and did my own thing so not having things made no difference to me.

Any way thats not what I wanted to ask I'm going to make a list of 10 things most people consider essential and I want you to tell me,which 5 you would give up in the order you would give them up.

If you don't have some of them Just say so and count them as one of the things you would give up the list.

6.Washer and Dryer.

Finley the last and most essential.

10.Your computer.

I would give up the microwave,TV,don't have a Cellphone. Toaster and I don't have a Dishwasher.

1. Dishwasher - I could give this up quite easily.

2. Microwave - wouldn't be such a great loss... a pain, but not the end of the world.

3.Washer and Dryer - erm... no... dryer, maybe, washer definitely NOT!

4.Toaster - yeah... I could toast in under the grill.

5.Vacuum - more than half the floors in my house are wooden, so yes.

As for my computer - not a chance, Mister!!!

Wow, that's tough one. I could give up the toaster and cell phone and microwave. I probably could give up the dishwasher if I lived alone but I have two kids, so to me it is a necessity. Washer and dryer, NEVER. I could give up TV but would at least want a VCR/DVD player to watch movies. Computer, Never!

I would give up the TV, I don't have a cell phone, I rarely use the toaster or the vacuum, and if I had to choose one more it would be the microwave. I would hate to give up the computer, car, or stereo, and live would be a lot more work without the dishwasher, or washer and dryer.
(actually I am giving up having a car for a while while I am moving.)

Funny thing... i used to not have a toaster. used dads every time i went to his house. so he gave it to me. now i don't touch the thing.

what would i give up?
dishwasher (never had one), cell phone (never had one), washer and dryer (that's what parents are for... right? and the laundromat right next door), TV cuz i almost never watch it anyways. um... and toaster.

i'd die without my computer. I'd be breaking into ppl's homes just to get my fix hahahha.

I guess I could give up these five things.....it I had to....

1. Dishwasher...I don't mind washing them by hand...but I hate them laying dirty in the sink.

2. Cellphone....I like the convenience...but I could give it up if I had to.

3. Toaster.

4. Stereo....cause I'd keep my car...and I listen to alot of my music there.

5. Vacuum....hate doing it anyways!

Funny how many things we take for granted, isn't it? Good blog! O

I have lived w/o most of these things from time to time, so it is doable. I have no cell phone, keep that. Have no dishwasher, keep that. Keep the stereo, rarely use it. Nothing much on the idiot box but sports, keep that. Toaster? could make do w/o it, rarely use it. aweful convenient, but the world does turn w/o a MW.

4/3/2006 6:21 pm

Dishwasher I clean them better and do them anyway
TV get my news on line
microwave love to cook
toaster I could make do without
washer dryer everything else is indispensable...Laundromat here I come

10. last but also the best..My WIFE, best dam thing that ever happened to me.

Don't have a dishwasher or vaccuum (hardwood floors) so that means I've got to pick three, right? OK, in the order that I'd give them up - toaster, TV and cell phone. Or...if I had good speakers on my computer, only then could I give up the stereo. Otherwise, the music, if nothing else, would stay.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

That is what I would give up and in which order....

The only two things I have problems with is my car and stero .....but my computer is really everything////better than TV and stereo and anything. I read my books I interact I do almost everything but have sex and clean with it. But I can get out a broom just as easily and so on to clean hell I have been there before. I can also use a little bit of soap and a wash rag to wash dishes been there before....same with laundry. ditto with baths ....warming water over a stove to fill a clawfoot tub and take a bath. I can do without a computer but I would really rather not. bacause it helps me so much.

5.Washer and Dryer.

i don't think any of these are essential and i lived for a number of years without all of them except my computer. however, now i don't have a vacuum cleaner or a dishwasher, so that's two strikes.

i only got a washer/dryer to deal with nappies; i rarely use the dryer section. however, i used to handwash everything for about 10 years and would not want to go back to that... its really hard work!! i couldn't make my living without a computer, so that would be the last to go. managing without a car is also quite difficult as there's not much public transport in SA, especially after dark... but we have one economy hatchback between my husband and myself. we really try to reduce our footprint on the planet and minimising non-essential appliances is just one way of doing it!

Hey oldman, good to read you again!

You asked: "Any way thats not what I wanted to ask I'm going to make a list of 10 things most people consider essential and I want you to tell me,which 5 you would give up in the order you would give them up.

If you don't have some of them Just say so and count them as one of the things you would give up the list.

1.Dishwasher. I have two - hands, that is. Won't give 'em up.

2.Microwave. (Fourth -- bye-bye)

3.TV. It's seldom on - first to go.

5.Cellphone. Third out the door.

6.Washer and Dryer.

7.Car. fifth to part with.

8.Toaster. Second to go.

Finley the last and most essential.

10.Your computer. No, someone'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands, damnit! I gave up smoking tobacco, after all!
