The Old School way.....time to close the school?

One of the things I've been thinking about during my time off is certain aspects of my life, or rather changing certain aspects of my life.

I grew up thinking that you treated others like you yourself wanted to be treated...that you tip your hat to a lady...that you treated a lady like a lady, even if she wasn't a lady...that you stood up for a lady, even if you didn't know her.

That's what I refer to as old school, but recently I've begun to think that I've been wrong...or misled.

The days of Sir Lancelot and John Wayne are long gone. Ladies, from what I can see and have been told, don't need or want a gentleman to stand up for them when someone treats them rudely. The ladies, it seems, can take care of themselves, thank you very much, so back off, mysterious stranger and mind your own business....you're not needed.

So I guess I'll just sit back in quiet anger as a boorish jerk pushes himself on a woman in a bar...or turn my back when a lady is insulted...or just walk away from trouble...because chivalry is dead...let the funeral dirge begin.

Because heaven knows I don't see any of my fellow men stepping up, nor do I see any of the ladies in distress needing any help...so I guess it's time for me to hang up my rusty armour and retire my shield, sell my six shooters and sell my hat.

Sure as hell, nobody needs an old school gentleman anymore....let the trolls run wild.

Pondering this for a few day now, i think that its more that men with this outlook are few and far between and we've had to learn to take care of ourselves. I personally think female liberation although freed many a women has also flung us to an opposite extreme. I watch as around me women have come to realise they have nothing left to prove and just want to go back to fulfilling thier primary roles and finding comfort in having a man take care of her....sadly they've stopped doing so in the process.

So as few as such gentlemen are...i sure find them refreshing when crossing my path and although i may sometimes forget you there at my aid as i habitually take care of myself, i thank you for tipping thine hat when i enter and i give you a gracious appreciative curtsey.

I think, to a degree, your right, old school is out, but there is a somewhat alternate way, knights of the old guard tend to rush in and help without delay.
The new way for us gents pre-liberation, is to ask said lady, if they require any help in the situation.
I think it's just not the liberation, we'll take care of ourselves attitude, but also, in todays society, an attitude of everyone wants something, maybe a belief, you/we, are prepard to help because we are also after something, but use a different perspective to get at it!
I may be wrong, just a view from a fellow gent, who is trying to find a newer way to be the knight in armour.
be well nighguy, and know your not alone!

I appreciate someone standing up for me. I never burned my bra, never marched for liberation. I count on parts of it, but turning our backs on our femininiaty was a bad mistake, for women worldwide. /curtsies low and deep to a real man...
