Memories and shit

So I'm driving home from work today and Smashing Pumpkins comes on. Now I use to dig the Pumpkins, lead singer was kind of a flake, but I can't get into them because they were my ex's favorite band. She loved them. Had all their albums and went to a few shows. Now every time I hear them I think of her instead of enjoying the song.
Same thing happened with a different Ex-GF. She and I always went to this one restaurant we both loved, even usually requested 'our booth' if it wasn't to busy. Now I think I've been there twice since we broke up 3 years ago. Still love the place, just don't feel the same way about it. And other little things that have changed in my eyed since the taint of bad feelings have been attached to them. I dunno....am I weird for doing this? How about you freaks? Does this stuff happen to you?

Yes, I think it happens to all of us. We associate certain songs, certan places and even certain smells with people. Even after we get over going certain places without that person, we still get nervous about going there. What if that person is there? For some reason, songs can leave their mark forever. It's not uncommon at all.

Well, looks like MissAnnThorpe pretty much already summed it up. For me it's smells. Guess Old Spice was right when they made the commercial that said scent is the strongest sense tied to memory (at least for me it is anyway). LOL

I eventually had to just toss all of my 80's music.
Shame 'cause I really enjoyed it.
Now I'm finally able to enjoy it again, and they remastered most of it on some really good Greatest Hits CDs.
Guess I got the last laugh, after all.
